could somebody tell my open ai file in Inkscape? the Inkscape guys wrote that he use Adobe Acrobat 9 .ai file format which format does moi use? Because I cant open moi's ai in Inkscape 0.46

Hi Andras - MoI writes out an Adobe Illustrator version 8 AI file.

It seems that for some reason Inkscape does not support that kind of AI file, they only seem to support version 9 or higher which is a fairly different kind of file which is basically the same as PDF.

One good way to do the conversion from MoI into Inkscape is to use this inexpensive ($39) drawing program called Mayura Draw (http://www.mayura.com/) - it can read in the version of AI file that MoI exports, and can then save out an SVG file which Inkscape can read.

That would probably be the easiest way to get curves from MoI over to Inkscape currently.

You can also use CH Expression v.3.3 (free preview version).

From there save as Ai v9 or PDF

Mmm instead of creating a new thread, I figured I'd just post here...

Currently the AI exporter only exports the curves, but no "fills".

Would it be possible to have an option to export the fills (or shapes)?

eg. if I have a sphere, that will currently only export as an arc curve - where I would like the actual circle shape (simple vector render of the shape)

Hi NightCabbage - yes that's a limitation of the current AI export, that only existing curves and edges in the model are exported.

In the future I do want to add some functions for handling what are called the "silhouette" curves as well but it will be a while before that happens.

You may want to look at getting ViaCAD for handling that part currently, check out some links in this other thread:
