Hi Burr, are you running on Vista or XP?

Did this start to happen after you pushed the new "Edit .ini file" button?

Sorry Michael. I keep MoI on a USB stick also. I have Version June 23 installed on the computer I normally work on. It has been working fine. I just installed August release, and "ANY" command entered into the command area, by opening Moi and typing Tab+Command name, will produce this error And fail.

Not custom commands or anything.

All keyboard shortcuts work fine. If I launch any command with a keyboard shortcut, it works (Except ConnectPoints).

If I launch my MoI Version June 23 that is on my USB stick on a computer that has not had August install on it, Everything works as I expect. If I bring USB stick to computer that i just installed August release on, All Commands entered into the command entry area fail.

XP OS and havnt puched that button yet. Aslo note that this happens in the old release that worked fine a few minutes ago also.

I didnt think MoI installs anything outside of the MoI folder so this is weird that it happens in both.

Hi Burr,

> Here is what I get with typing "New" in the command area:

Well, that's definitely odd....

How are you putting focus into the command area before you type "New", are you typing Tab first, or .... ?

Have you recently installed some new development tools like Visual Studio 2008 that you show there? Maybe that has something to do with it.

It kind of sounds almost like your \commands sub-folder cannot be found, so that "New" is attempting to run as some inline script rather than as the actual New command, and then some script development system that you have installed is catching the script error.

Is this all happening when you are trying to run directly off of a USB key instead of a more regular hard drive install?

Hi Michael,

The metallic option is nice but to much dark shadows.
I vote for the "Custom + Fill Levels" option, which shows me
the best overall performance.

My compliments,

Yeah nothing is new on this box. I suppose I'll just wait and see if anything happens to anybody else. If not, then it must be me. Is there anything in this release installed outside of the MoI folder?

Hi Burr, well that's very mysterious behavior, since the new Aug release does not install anything that would be shared between the previous beta and itself...

Maybe it would be a good idea to do a system reboot?

The only thing that is normally shared between 2 installs is the moi.ini file when it is set in its default location.

Hi Burr,

> Is there anything in this release installed outside of the MoI folder?

Nope.... Other than a few additional command files (BoundingBox, ExplodeMove) there was actually no change in the installer for this release from the previous one.

Hi Paolo,

> The metallic option is nice but to much dark shadows.

Yeah it does tend to have that effect somewhat. Probably in the future when there are other environments that could be loaded it would make it a bit more varied and subtle.

But it's also purely optional, you can just leave it turned off if you don't like it...

Once you set that option, it should be remembered as the default for your regular working mode after that.

The script copier utility for this release.

You can download and run the attached ScriptCopier_Aug_8_2009.exe program, which will copy custom added scripts from your MoI v1 installation to the new beta's installation folder.

Michael,
Just booted to a clone disk from about a week ago. It's me. Sorry, talk later.

It may have something to do with acronis, or my machine is compromised. Have you ever heard of Registry keys in the root of HKCU?

Hi Burr,

I haven't heard of that before, but the registry is such a big pile of stuff it's pretty hard to gauge what is normal in there and what isn't.

But I don't seem to have any entries like that in my registry over here.

Michael,
Sorry for any undue concern or added workload on the initial release.

The August release installs and runs fine on other computers.

Nice job,
Burr

Hi Burr, no problem - thanks for testing it on other computers!

Something on your main computer seems to be interfering with MoI running scripts in its normal way.... Maybe a development tool is hooking into it and modifying behavior, or something like that? I'm not really sure.

Thanks Michael !

Just had a chance to have a play and there are some nice features in this beta, V2 is coming along nicely, it's amazing how the colours give MoI a different feel, maybe it's just me.
The pre selection highlight effect is quite cool, so far everything is running smoothly over here.

Well Done!
~Danny~

No it's not just you Danny. I like the colours too, and the new lighting lets me set things up the way I want. Good stuff from Michael as usual :-)

Regards
Tony

Hi Michael,

>> Implemented new lighting engine.

Excellent! I like it. Shiny pastel-like color surfaces - it is so cute.

>> Updated SAT export - closed surfaces are now split into 2 joined half pieces

It won't apply in case of writing the analytic surface (i.e. moi.ini WriteAnalyticSurfaces=y), will it?

>> some additional ways to control keyboard behavior

Many thanks!
I added a few .js files with proper text within it (e.g. moi.command.execCommand( 'BooleanDifference' ) or moi.geometryDatabase.lock();) into the scipts directory and put the file name the same as an alias I want to use (e.g. bd.js). Now I can trigger the command BooleanDifference by typing bd<space>. Very nice!
I only had to discard a one-letter keyboard shortcuts like Space and B (or any other shortcut letter which was the first letter one of aliases) since they seemed to have priority.

>> Things are getting very close to being wrapped up for the MoI v2.0 final release

There is still no command prompt for Show pts command when running command without preselection like I mentioned many months ago... and I think the options dialog window section "View" needs sorting a bit (Import/Export section sets a good example). It looks quite chaotic after you added a couple of new (more or less related) buttons and checkboxes in a reckless manner ;)

Added a "both sides" option for the Line command to make it a bit easier to draw a line starting from the midpoint.

Added a new BoundingBox command which can be set up on a keyboard shortcut, which will create a bounding box (either a 3D solid box, or a 2D rectangle curve) framed around the current selection.

Added a new BoundingBoxCenter command which can be set up on a keyboard shortcut, which will create a point object to mark the center of the bounding box framed around the current selection.

Wow Michael its so awesome!
Thanks for all your hard work, and thanks for the new lighthing system also.
Im gonna play with MoI all the night :D

I wonder how much less posting on the forum could be achieved?
