Hi,
I just discovered MOI, which on first look seems to be brilliant, via a discussion on the Silo thread. My interest - and need - is to be able to get ship plans into a reasonable 3d form. Silo wasn't much cop for this, being an organic modelling tool. I noticed David's note about modelling Le Couronne in Moi and that brings me to my question. How do you import drawings. I can't see any 2d formats mentioned in the import...Help! Please.

I also have SketchUp and Moi seems a nice partner for it - no problems importing weird shapes from Moi into it! Sadly Sketchup doesn't export 3dm, though

Cheers,
Fraser

Make a Ship with Sketchup should be a big Challenge :)
Best export from Sketchup is OBJ Format
And after find free prog like Amapi 6.1
http://forums.polyloop.net/software-misc-logiciels-divers/
(You must just post one message for download it)
Reload your OBJ format in Amapi and export it as Iges Format for moi

Ps Seems the Iges don't work from Amapi 6.1 :(
In fact seems you must only draw in nurbs mode (and not in poly) when you want export in Moi in Iges Format from Amapi 6.1 !

Best ist use this plug
before Image in background will be permit in moi :)

Vitrine is fascinating, I'll give it a shot.

As for a sailing ship in Sketchup....frustrating, very frustrating!
Cheers

You can try this free one for Ships :)
http://freeship.sourceforge.net/
A little rustic as User Interface but efficient :)
And it has an Export Iges for moi:)

But another time Moi seems don't import the Iges Format :(
Seems that Moi can't import Iges when this last is composed of Poly?
File Iges following

I tried to import the IGES file to Rhino. It worked. Then I saved the file in Rhino and opened in MoI. It worked as well.
It seems to be poor IGES file. This is an error file creating by AlphaCAM during loading the IGES file.

Well, I guess I'll have a look at Freeship and see what it does, but I hope that importing jpegs will become possible in Moi, I really like the interface and overall it has, I think huge possibilities. I shall keep playing with it!
Regards,
Fraser

Hi Fraser,
I guess you're talking about background images to help as modelling guides. If this is so it's been requested on several occasions and should be there very soon according to Michael (maybe the next beta...)

Hello:

I can´t tell you anything new. I used Rhino for draw the 2d curves, but looks that it´s only works in the full version (or a few times in the evaluate version).
Anyway I´ve seen that you have noticed of Pilou´s method. And looks that Michael is working for take images in the background for the next version.
Bye!
David
P.S. If you like the ships, I have found this forum http://www.flyinglab.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30 . I discovered it when I was looking for information of La Couronne. Unfortunately there are much better models than mine!!!!! :-P
