Hello everyone,hello Michael,

I would like to share this process to make (low cost) real 3d models with Ponoko web site from MOI drawings :

1 - Draw in MOI + export Sketchup.
2 - Download the SVG plugins for Sketchup. See http://www.instructables.com/id/S6ATZXQFHFQ4KLY/
3 - Import MOI drawings in Sketchup + select volume faces you would like to be laser cut with SVG plugin (see the video !).
4 - Open Inkscape + standard Ponoko format rectangle (Ponoko kit to download at : http://www.ponoko.com/make-and-sell/downloads).
5 - Inside Inkscape, insert SVG import faces in Ponoko format rectangle.
6 - Send EPS file to Ponoko website : http://www.ponoko.com/

That's done !. Not very quick but it nice to see 3D parts in the real world sometimes for few dollars only !.

Bye,

Pierre.

PS : Maybe an EPS or SVG export format from a 2D MOI view one day ?

Hi Pierre, that looks like a cool way to make real models!

Yes, I do want to add support for SVG in the future.

EPS though is very, very similar to the AI export that MoI currently does have.

Usually anything that can accept EPS files would also be able to accept AI (Illustrator version 8 files like MoI and many other programs export) as well.

- Michael

Hello everyone, Hello Michael,

A new fantastic CNC machine (and low cost) to make 3D models from MOI drawings exported in Sketchup : http://www.phlatboyz.com/
The team has developped a Sketchup plugin to create Gcode directly inside Sketchup : http://www.phlatboyz.com/the-process-creating-your-design/. In few times, they think they could manage the Phlatprinter directly inside Sketchup.
This plugin, Phlatscript, is an open source software and they say it could be use "easily" in other software ... In MOI why not ?

Regards,

Pierre.

PS : You will need too the "Flatten ruby script" for Sketchup : Flattens 3D objects to 2D, placing all entities on the Z=0 plane. The function i dream in MOI for the next version ... : http://www.smustard.com/script/Flatten
