Hi Anis,

Like bisenberger mentioned, ZSurf can be good to use for raised relief type work, check out these posts for some more information on it:

http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=863.2
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=602.7

Another possibility would be to build the base bowl shape in MoI, then export that to a brush sculpting program like 3Dcoat or ZBrush to add the raised details.

One good way in MoI to build the base shape would be to make a segmented outline and then use Construct / Revolve / Rail revolve to produce the shape.

I've attached a result model here as segmented_bowl_3dm.zip .

The way I produced it, was I first drew an 8-sided polygon in, so I could use it as a snapping guide so I could snap the ends of a curve on to it and know that curve would replicate nicely with array circular:

Hope that helps get you started! It may be possible to produce your raised outlines in MoI as well by modeling them with sweeps, but it can be pretty tedious. Those other programs mentioned like ZSurf, 3Dcoat or ZBrush are all focused quite a lot on that task of producing raised relief type shapes so they tend to be easier to use to generate stuff like that that is kind of sculpted.

That could be done by applying a gray scale image of the ornament as a displacement map in a program like modo.

... of course, the displacement only shows up in the render. No geometry is actually created as in Zbrush.

Hi bisenberger....

Yes, I know about Zsurf, but it will only work mapping on to flat / planar surface.
The bowl is more spherical type stuff.

Thank You :)

Can we use those program to mapping image on to non planar surface ?

Thanks Michael....

Hi Anis,

I think it also has an option to do a cylindrical mapping shape, but I don't remember about spheres.

But yes, it may be hard to use for your particular case here.

> Can we use those program to mapping image on to non planar surface ?

Yup, they usually have an option to use an image as a kind of stamp that will imprint into a general surface, they are not restricted to only work on planar surfaces.

Check out some examples:

These programs do produce polygon output though, so you can use them to do something like generate STL data but you would not be able to bring the sculpted results back into MoI since MoI does not work on polygon data.

>>After check it again, Zsurf support for spherical also.<<

and you can use bitmap as "basesurf"
import bowl in rhino3d and see command "testshowzbuffer" from topview
after import this picture as "basesurf->bitmap" in zsurf, option "custom resolution", adjust "z-high" and combine this with other "ornamentmap".

and how it looks with Rhino3d -> UDT-Tools???

Hi Anis,

No, not that I am aware of. I think the free version is all there is.

For Zbuffer enough Testversion from Rhino3d, i generate only screenshots.
Other way is command "Splop" from Rhino3d.
>have you an example ?
see attached file
