Maybe not : True Space has these numerous color icons !
Colors disturb regard and don't help many more than a quiet uniform peacefull UI ;)
There is fight between colors and drawing itself of the icon ;)
It's like a patchwork!

Despite of that cool filling colors :)

Hi OSTexo,

Yeah, that's a pretty good example where having both the icon and the text together just helps to smooth things out by quite a bit.

It can often turn out to be difficult (or even practically impossible) to make a perfect representation of a command in an icon, especially when there are things like several stages of actions in the command.

The text labels help to make the UI more "browsable". One thing that I really dislike a lot is when you are confronted only with a big block of cryptic icons and then you have to go and hover your mouse over each one to get a tooltip to see what it does. That behavior of pausing over a bunch of buttons is a big interruption in workflow.

The text labels in MoI's buttons kind of act as an "always on" tooltip that you don't have to pop open with a special action.

I've really tried to avoid tooltips as much as possible, in MoI they are currently only used for things like showing a full long path name when you hover over a truncated file path, not for basic buttons.

Hi Iyes,

Very nice icons for MoI, hope you can create for all MoI icons.... :)

Hi Michael,

Why you not create "colors icons" for default MoI ?
I wish you can give us choice to use grey color or full color.

In my opinion, icons with color make user easy to find the correct command.
Also very nice in my eyes... :)

Thanks Iyes... !!!

Hi Anis,

Well, mostly because it would take extra work but not really give any benefit to the majority of people.

> I wish you can give us choice to use grey color or full color.

I only have a limited amount of time, so if I spent a lot of time working on several different kinds of icon choices, that would take time away from working on other features.

Would you prefer to have colored icons instead of object organization tools or faster meshing for example?

Yes, of course I can understand your concern.

But anyway, Is it difficult to "convert" grey icon to color icon ?
Is there any software that can help us on this ?

Thanks !!!

Hi Anis,

> But anyway, Is it difficult to "convert" grey icon to color icon ?

Well, it is not too difficult to do a single one...

But anything that adds more time to the whole process of making new features is kind of bad for me. It's not even necessarily about how long it would take to convert the existing ones - having multiple sets of icons means that I would have some additional process to do in the future as well every time I need to add something to the UI.

So it would need to provide some kind of noticeable benefit to make that worthwhile for me to add to my whole general process.

Photoshop?

Hi Anis,

I actually don't use Photoshop myself, so I won't really be the best person to help you - I use Paint Shop Pro for my image handling work.

You could probably find some tutorials searching with Google, trying searching for something like "photoshop colorize", or something similar to that.

I use IconWorkhop for all my icon related chores
http://www.axialis.com/iconworkshop/

Its object oriented approach to icon construction makes it a bit quicker than working from scratch...
