Bug - deleting face causes MoI to become unresponsive

Here is what appears to be a repeatable bug with the Jan-19 beta.

Given the attached file, select the bottom surface (that embeds the text Otterman), then press the delete key. 1 processor utilization goes to about 80%, and the program becomes unresponsive for at least a couple of minutes. Then I get impatient and use the task manager to abort the process.

Is this a genuine bug, or just a hard problem that needs patience?

For my next trick, I will attempt to separate the piece into surfaces and get rid of the bottom that way.

Yes, separating the solid allows me to remove the highlighted face. So, I got around the problem, but still found it to be curious.

I used patience and it deleted normally.

Hi Otterman - thanks for posting the file.

It is definitely suspicious - I mean I would not be surprised if you would have to wait for a few seconds for something with a fair number of surfaces in it, but not this long.

I'll see if I can figure out what is going on.

Hi Otterman, I've found out which piece is going too slowly for this delete operation and I'm working on rewriting it to see if I can make it better.

Right now you can run into this particularly if you delete a face that then leaves some disconnnected island kinds of pieces (in your case the letters) and it is being performed on an object made up of many faces.

I think you found this already, but if you select that whole sub-structure of faces (including the interior letters), and then use Edit/Separate, that should go ok and then deleting that face from a smaller object should work better at the moment.

Hi Otterman, I've been able to overhaul the area that was not handling this face deletion well and the next beta will handle this case in just a couple of seconds rather than taking such a long time.

Thanks for posting the model for me to test with!
