I am very curious about how a development work on a 3d program like this is, I am a complete programing illiterate.) but I find this very fascinating.
You sometimes talk about doing the UI for features first before coding, how does that work? and like you work with implementing I/O plugins like obj, and talk about hooking things up, what does that mean and what does that work?

It may sound naive idiotic questions, but I am just like I say fascinated:).

Any chance of having surface groups upon exports??

That's what I'm really thirsty for - being able to export labeled surfaces for faster texturing!

Well, it doesn't always go in the same way. Sometimes I may just think about it, sometimes I may sketch things out, sometimes I may attempt several prototypes or iterations before arriving at a good design...

This part can be somewhat chaotic.

Well, that part means altering the code to work in a different way, like writing different data out to the file.

The code is a whole bunch of statements that tell the computer what to do in sequence, like add these 2 numbers, call this function, etc...

Hi Will, that is definitely a targeted thing to get done before v2 is finished, but I don't think it will be ready by this next beta. The first thing is to get the UI inside of MoI working well. Once that seems to be handled well then I'll be working on the export parts.

Hi Micha, I don't normally send e-mails, instead I make a post here in the forum (with a thread title something like "New beta available") when it is ready.

OK, could be nice to get a "newsletter" in the future so that user that cannot expect the next beta must not look every day here. ;)

Hi Micha, unfortunately doing a newsletter kind of requires extra work and overhead for me, things like unsubscribing, people forgetting that they signed up and then thinking that I am sending out spam, stuff like that.

So if I were to do that, I would end up having a bit less time to actually work on program features.

I have to kind of be careful not to get into things that require extra work for me to do them, since I have such limited resources right now.

Good, I understand. I thought it's easier and could be done by an automatic solution like a forum option like "admin can send email".

Hi Micha, no this particular forum doesn't have any kind of "broadcast e-mail" function implemented currently.

It is possible for me to add such a function by modifying the forum, but again that is a chunk of work that would take time away from being able to work on new features in MoI itself.
