Brain Amplifier Pt 2 - Textures and Tweaks

Hello everyone and welcome to the The Brain Amplifier Part 2 - Texture and Tweaks :-)

I've been working on this in modo for a while now and, as I just finished the power desk, I thought I would share my progress for anyone who is interested. As well as textures, there are a number of tweaks to the model. As well as the glass in the power cores from the earlier thread, I've added handles to the panels, re-done some of the buttons and added a large central control.

Some things look quite black as there is not much else in the scene to reflect yet, likewise for the glass. I'm quite pleased with the way this is progressing though.

Comments and crits are welcome.

Wow that is an awesome job texturing, it's really coming to life now and that really brings out the details that you've put into the modeling as well.

When you have the full thing done I hope you'll include several closer up shots just like this one since it shows off the details.

I keep seeing more little interesting details as I look over it, like how pieces and panels are fastened down.

Thanks very much, people.

Yes I plan to do this - though it may be some time before I have the whole thing done :-)

>>And I am impressed with Modo ... I have never used it.

I like it - though it's very different from Carrara which I was using before. Takes a bit of getting used to, finding out the best ways to do things.

Hi Frenchy,

Yes, not much reflection there. There's nothing there to reflect yet, no background at all :-)

As I bring in the rest of the machine there should be more reflections off the glass parts.

Tony

Brian,

Thanks mate.

Frenchy,

You have the right word. The glass in core 1 has something reflected in it, the glass in core 2 does not, so it looks like there is no glass there at all. I will fix this later in the final scene.

Cheers

This is coming along so well Tony, can't wait for the final scene.

Your project brings back memory's of when I purchased an old metal working machine for the garage, it was made in the 60's but hey, I was young and couldn't afford a modern version :(

This was the machine with control panel, only mine was the exact color of your control :)

Cheers
~Danny~

Hi Tony, cool details on the board.

If I may just say something, you should try to avoid multiple lights shadow (I count 3 shadows with different softness). Usually one shadow light is enough.
Btw here's a couple of hdr studio, that you can place as environment map (and maybe disable them from the camera view), and activate the radiosity.
So you can get nice reflection on the surfaces.

There maps are free, the author post them here:

There should only be 2 main shadows from 2 spots. Anything else comes from the lights and glows on the on the desk. I am hoping to build a room around the whole thing at which point the lighting will get a thorough going over. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Thanks also for the link to the HDRs. downloading now :-)

Tony
