Great Render! I like the contrast between the soft scarf and the shiny snowman.

Hi Pascal, Nice!
I like your use of simple spheres to create the overall snowman, the lighting and camera angle in the render are great too.
I'm trying to work out the lighting scene you used, I can just see the reflections, looks like a long hanger with a series of lights on the wall :)

Cheers
~Danny~

Hi Anis,

I don't have the contruction curves anymore, but here's the method I used for the hands.
I hope it's clear enough.

Thanks for your comments, I'm happy you like it :)

@Danny,

I don't have any clue about how lit a scene myself, so I suppose it's far to be a good case study for you.
For this scene I've used 2 planes, one in the back (the white background you see is actually a light), and one on the left.
The overall background/environment is full white (at 25% of light emission). And I add an hdr for the reflection, to have some extra specular spot on the snowman.

Wow congratulations PaQ, you're winning contests all over the place!

That's a great prize you won on this one too, those Shuttle computers are pretty cool, I have an older version as my living room computer. That one looks really loaded up.

Hi PaQ,

> I just hope the quad core with not overheat to much

They have a pretty good cooling system in those things, there is a heat pipe that connects to the CPU and goes to a radiator that is right along with the rear fan. So basically the CPU heat blows directly out of the case instead of the normal kind of setup with a larger case.

Hi PaQ, there is also a page here that describes that cooling system and has some pictures:
http://eu.shuttle.com/archive/en/faq_ice.htm

That works so well to cool the CPU that I would worry quite a bit more about the video card cooling actually rather than the CPU! That's why it is maybe not so great to try and put a super maxed out video card in these little boxes. The one they have along with that box sounds like a good fit though, modern and powerful but not one of the really power hungry ones.

That really sounds like a nice little box, major score! :)

Interesting. But seems a bit pricey for what it does. Can't most top-level render apps produce HDRI or EXR images to use as GI light sources? For example, I can output both HDR and EXR images from Brazil for Rhino in all common HDRI lens shapes (panaromic, spherical, etc) using any scene geometry/lights when i render. And of course a fully-developed render engine can do so much more than just make studio lighting, such as using gels, mask patterns, etc.... Other rendering apps (Lighwave, C4D, Mental Ray) can't do this too? Sorry i just don't know much about the abilities of those render apps...
