Now you tell me. Ha That's good to know. Actually, finding out how to go about making one before I get the 'easy way' is the best learning. haha
On this one, I simply made a profile then revolved it to the get the 'gear blank'. Then I used a rectangular solid and array copy to place the teeth after a boolean diff. I 'quartered' the the whole thing and then worked on the inside of the gear. Used circles and line segments, turned on snap to object, to the tangents on 3 circles. After that, a trim, extrude, then boolean diff and it was done. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be when I started. Look at me, I'm rambling. Well, maybe another noobie will find it useful.
