Looks great of course but the claw would not close due to the connections struts bolted onto them. The center piece should rotate and thread in and out of a bushing which would open and close the claws about their pivot pin. The struts would not allow the claws to "collapse".

Good one Grendel (just hope I really get you)
Here's an update ... I can now close it completely, but I can't open it as large as I wish ...

It appears the Pivot point is the strut area. That would now make sense. But for future reference, reversing these 2 points would make a more "powerful" claw.

Just great inspiration to see your work.
Your fine detail ---oh my gosh!

I have been fidling with your concepts----a Brian version!

Great fun and learning.(AND---I can see my faults still!)

Thank you,

Brian

Here is my ?finished version! (Have you guessed that as a once fitter and turner (1946) I look for cast iron parts to machine!)

Now, I see the need to construct a tower crane to attach it to and then create a yard full of scrap cars and other metal objects to use it on?

Fun stuff!

I think I am on a roll--again!

Creating a scrap car yard in Carrara, just using default items that come supplied in the Browser.

More fun!

""Would love to find a way to match MoI camera to other 3D package camera, so I can use the cool Moi's wireframe over a g.i. render pass""

Yes, this would definitively be useful!!

The only way I found is to gather camera and target information in Rhino, then apply it in another 3d software.

If Moi could generated a camera of the perspective viewport while exporting a mesh it would be quite useful!

Great Robot!!!

The camera option would be great but in lieu of that you can place a proxy object.

Hi Marc,

It will do this for SketchUp SKP format export.

However, most polygon formats don't have anything in their structure to hold camera data, they often only hold geometry. For example OBJ, LWO, and STL are all like this.

There really isn't any way for me to generate the camera information when the file format does not have anything within it to hold that data.

It should be possible for me to make the camera available to script though, so that a small script could be written to display it or copy it to the clipboard as text though.

Great!! I think sketchup format is also importable by many software through collada (Google earth kmz format)

I did not realized that OBJ and LWO could not hold camera information, that's sad!

Cool Brian, a car cemetery could be a nice background for the robot too :) Not sure how many months I need to build that :O).
Need some energy to finish the model ...

Hi Michael,

>> It should be possible for me to make the camera available to script though, so that a small script could be written to display it or copy it to the clipboard as text though.

Do you mean a script that will open some kind of popup showing the actual MoI camera setting in the pespective view ? (position, rotation, focal lenght ...)
That would be really handy :)

(btw I haven't find any settings in the MoI.ini to control the perspective fov angle, or is it hidded somewhere else ?)

I was kind of thinking of a script that would just do something simple like copy the camera location as text to the clipboard...

But there is actually already a place that will pop up the rotation angles - that's under Options / View / 3D view angles. Maybe I should add camera information to that spot.

No, sorry there isn't currently any way to set it. It is on the list of stuff to add though.

Aucun temps d'attente comme cette margueritte insuportable que l'on trouve sur les autres sites à base de flash!

Hihi ce robot semble bien empesé en ce qui concerne les articulations du bassin
Je serai curieux de le voir marcher :)

Sorry I don't see that i write in French :=)
Cool Banana Album gallery :give me the idea to make another one for me
Very cool to see no wait as the flash rotating logo usual!

Want to see walk this clumsy, awkward. robot :)
