WIP - Space Hangar

Just want to share some screenshot from my actual work with MoI :)

Here's a classic space hull detail, quite easy to do in MoI off course, and good source for normal/diffuse backing

Here's the normal in action ... not really pleased with the model, but the design was allready made.

Some wire/detail from the hangar

And a first GI render test ... still the floor to build and some details here and there to adjust.

Hope you'll like it !

Question for Paqs Modeling technique. Does everythng have "thickness" as in real life, or do you just use "surfaces" in some areas.

In other words, if you had say a "heat gaurd" that covered an exaust pipe, in reallife it might be 3 mm thick chrome. You could design sheet of 3 mm thick material or just make surface shape, no thickness and apply material at render time..

Any insight is appreciated.

Burr

Thanks for your comments everyone :)

@BurrMan

No really sure if I really get your question, but yes everything has thickness, at least everything coming from MoI, otherwise I would have normal problems.
That's said, as you are talking about 3mm thickness stuff, I'm not really sure of which part of the models you are talking about :S (I don't rememer creating such a small surface offsets)

PaQ! nice work!

I like the way you express the enormity of your scenes without any reference to scale, must be the camera angles :)

Thanks for sharing

Not so much this particular model. More your mindset when you create models.

To try and be more simple in my question:

If you had to do say a Car exaust pipe, the metal of the pipe would in reality be .0625 inches thick. Yet you could model it with just a surface tube. Heres a picture of the 2 different ways.

Thanks.

Hello there, thanks again for your kind words :)

@TwinSnakes

No, I'm back into lightwave for this project, all this stuffs are made for a short movie.
The new animation cache system for the global illumination is really nice :)

@BurrMan

Ok got it, so the reply is the same, yes everything has thickness, I only work with solids to avoid
polygon normal problems when exporting the model in poly.

@Anis

A quad xeon 3.0 ... but it doesnt matter as MoI only use one core I guess :)
