Hi Anis

In principle, poly modelling is considered more adaptable to the "artistic" senses in many respects.

The big joy I am finding --even with the great simplicity of it's workings---is how one can use MoI in a more "freeform" approach than, not only, other more complex poly modellers--Hexagon, LW, XSI,-- but, also, the likes of Nurbs in Rhino and Amapi.

I am having great fun!

(Have you considered that that wierd effort of mine, used as the design for a major sculpture,---could probably sell for thousands of dollars!---well!---why not?)

Here is an example (if of interest), where some of my original "precise" modelling in Hexagon/Carrara is later combined to make my current "Desktop".
(All Hexagon/Carrara/Photoshop)

Anis this is a difficult problem you have set for us. I am finding it a real challenge. Unfortunately I cannot give up!!

If I sweep from this side with two rails then it doesn't look good from the other side!



And if I sweep from this side with this profile it also doesn't work



My sweep is not defining the surface sufficiently. I need a four rail sweep!!

I'm beginning to think loft again!

Probably a few different working methods--using your file--- than you? (Don't know!)

The main bowl was just created by a revolve of the shape curve.

About your alternative way for the boolean, could you describe the steps to pattern the cylinders ?

Hi All...

I wish forum member that participate on the moi exercise will be grow up.
Please post your wip or another ideas on this colander exercise. This exercise will be close after oct 31 2008.

Then I need your advice or ideas for the November MoI Exercise.
Just post your image.

The rules is :

1. One image per member
2. Model cant contains more than 10 parts ( base on our experience is previous exercise, too many parts = less participant )
3. Michael G. will choose one of the image for the next exercise by oct 30 2008

I wish all the forumm member agree with this rules.
Too many images and vote will take longer time. So we need this rules.

OK I think I give up now.

This is my best so far. Loft using the curves shown.



The surface is clean and looks Ok but no matter what I try, I cannot get shell to work.
So maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

For me, just creating a copy, moving it down a fraction, then creating a sweep profile between the two seemed pretty simple--and just as quick?

It doesn't work in this case. First off, it would have to be copy|scale|shift. But the problem is the lower part would need to be scaled up and the upper part scaled down!! Tricky.

No, no scaling involved. Just a simple copy/paste and lowering the copy a fraction was all that was needed.

Apologies Brian you are quite right. The secret is to shift down not up! And what is more, the union of the 3 surfaces happens easily and the edges can even be filleted!!

I may be free of this colander yet!
