For the next hours, you can get for free a version of CrossOver, valid for a year.
CrossOver is a software for run windows programs in Linux, based in WINE, but better -they say that :-)-
Maybe is a way to run MoI 3D on Linux.
Anyway, the linux users have a chance for get this software for free
Bye!

Thanks for that David.

I downloaded crossover and MoI seemed to install OK...but sadly after many attempts, I cannot get it to run. Will keep trying. Someone will solve it in the end!

(Hopefully this won't mean more headaches for Michael)

If you follow this you should be able to run the soft
http://howto.landure.fr/gnu-linux/installer-directx-9-0c-avec-wine
it the simplest tutorial that i found. the only thing is it not very stable. and you cannot acces menu like" open" or other...exept with short cuts. I dont knwo what that kind of lib this menu are using may be there is a windows library that could be install...

I've actually been working towards this (getting moi working in wine) as well and was planning on putting up a bounty on winehq for someone to get it working out of the box.

What did you do? The biggest part is having to use the, as Michael said, mshtml (or, IE) dll, as the gecko implementation isn't complete enough yet. D3D9, which I thought would be a problem, has no problems at all.

Ok i did not get the mshtml to work and as using internet explorere is considering as a nonsense for wine and ubuntu user i did not get any help until now to use mshtml dll (they are in internet explorer but don t seem to be active even if i uses wine config to call them)
but digging throught internet i found that http://www.transgaming.com/products/swiftshader/
it emulate direct x so you can run Moi in virtual box. an other way to get moI on linux...

You don't even need swiftshader anymore (if you'll search the forum I experimented with it in virtualized XP way back before v1 was released) - vmware workstation 6.5 (that is, the non-free version) supports directx 9.0 and shader model 2.0.

It's slower than wine though, thanks to the extra layer in between.
