Also Paolo's recommendation of looking at a brush-based displacement type program is a good one.

You also may want to look into ZBrush as well, it is another similar one.

Those programs allow you to kind of "paint" displacements on top of an existing mesh, you kind of paint brush strokes like you are in Photoshop but those brush strokes create ridges or valleys along the surface.

You should also be able to use different bitmaps as a pattern brush that you can use to stamp a previously drawn 2D design as a relief.

Hi,

Daz Hexagon 2.5 has a brush sculting option too.

Go see the web site and there a video that show what you can do with the brush, if it is what you mean about a brush.

As does the latest version of Carrara, so, in all, Carrara is a great renderer, genuine all round 3D app, Hexagon type poly modelling with displacement painting(and 3D paint included in the next update later in the year)----all in one.

Having said that what 3D Coat does is a huge step up in "Clay modelling", carving, displacement and painting in 3D.

But, Still!, what fun doing odd things still in MoI!

(Then taking into, say Carrara/3D Coat, and displacement brush painting!)

Hi Brian, yup that is a good way to combine things - use MoI to get the basic overall form down and then use displacement painting for small detailed bumps.

You could acheive a simple releif topo to object using Zsurf also. No projection tools, but you could make your individual parts, and place them on objects, out of bitmap files.

Not what you were asking about, quite, but a way to get this done with MoI without buying other tools.

JFYI.
