Haha

I am so sorry! (not)

It is.... a render... But I made the render and the model.
So I don't feel all to bad. I used Cinema 4D and VRay.

But in any case, this is my desired end result and I WILL route that soon.

Till then, thanks for being such good sports!

Lemo

Hi Lemo, I hope that your final result will hold up to that great image!

It'll be a bit of an April Fool's on yourself if you can't match that now! :)

I happen to do a *little* 4th axis rotary and lathe work too. The red flag of reality came up immediately. Good joke though. :-)

Could you please comment more on where you obtained the drive motors and electronics? Also, as always, pricing? Are you using Mach control software?

The entire thing costs around 6-700$ to make. Without labor. If you count that with a reasonable rate you would have to allocate around $1600. Motor is a 90-0Oz/Inch $100 one from Ebay/Hongkong/China in this case and the electronics are from geckodrives.com. I use EMC on Linux with a realtime kernel. MS-Windows and Mach3 would work as well but has the usual MS dependent 'features' which means that it will work and that there is a reasonable explanation every time it fails. Other parts I either had or ordered from McMasters which happens to be almost around the corner.
Cheers
Lemo

PS: You also need a Small Machine Shop to make it... Mill, Lathe, Bandsaw...etc... etc... all that good stuff which brings one close to a divorce....

Here is a carving I made with my machine. The pre viz is in the gallery.

I'll be giving some classes/workshops soon in the Bloomfield, NJ area which is 20mins and two train stops away from Penn Station in Manhattan.
From idea to solid model, all hands on. Not a plain lecture.
If there is interest within the MoI community , please let me know as there is a discount.
Cheers
Rainer

It turned out great Rainer! That's also cool idea to do a sort of "start to finish" workshop.
