Hello Guys,
hello Michael.
How are you doing?

Bear with me about my ...well...cannot define it....

I want to shell this solid. I select the flat surface on the buttom, use the shell command, nothing happen.
Why is that?
I tried many tickenesses. Nada

Surely this is stupid.
Thank you much,
Rudy

have you try 0.2? Direction Normal :)
That works for up and bottom
but with the version 2.0

For the v 1.0 that works not for the bottom !

It shells Ok for me.

The height of your disk is 1.5 units so you need to shell at less that 0.75 for it to work.

Hi Rudy, v1 has some problems shelling surfaces that come to a "pole" like the rounded top of your piece there.

v2 has some changes to the geometry library that improve this, and over here using the latest v2 beta your object seems to shell fine.

You can download the v2 beta here: http://moi3d.com/beta.htm

If you want to shell this in v1 instead, you'll need to do it in a more sort of manual way probably by offsetting the profile curve for that rounded cap shape, and then making a new revolve with the offset curve for the shell's inner surface. Then that can be extruded and booleaned out from the main shape to get the same result. But it's certainly easier to use v2 instead.

Thanks Michael,
downloaded the Beta today...
Awesome!

PS. Hope that V2 will have a volume calculator.

PS. In a couple of days, I will need to post a new question on how to wrap around a curved surface a flat design....may be is already in V2.

Thank you for your time and effort! MOI have been profitable for me.

Rudy

Hi Rudy,

> PS. Hope that V2 will have a volume calculator.

I'll have to see how things look after I've wrapped up the work on the object organization type system first, but yes I think so.

Unfortunately that kind of deforming and wrapping tends to be a difficult area of work, v2 does not include this so far and is not likely to include it.

It is an area that has been handled well by Rhino in the v4 release - if you need to do surface deforming and wrapping it can be a difficult task to complete in MoI right now, Rhino would probably work better for that particular task.

As far as v2 stuff in MoI goes, there is a good overview of all the new stuff on Petr's page here: http://kyticka.webzdarma.cz/3d/moi/doc/V2releasenotes.html
