People still use Imperial measurements?

Pretty sad for this Century really!

That makes it what, 44 years, behind even Aussie? (I can't converse with even with my children (in thier 50s) on imperial measurement any longer.)

Yes, I do intend to update the feet&inches input just as you request there.

Someone else mentioned that to me at Siggraph as well - when I was developing the feet&inches I didn't know that it was a pretty normal thing to be able to leave out that final inch symbol.

It should not be too difficult to add, and it was actually on my list to try and squeeze in to the last beta but I did not quite have enough time to get to it. It should get in for the next one though.

Sadly I'm stuck using an antiquated and nonsensical system. While metric makes so much more sense, it's so much easier for me to visualize things in feet and inches, having used them at work and school for so long. I would gladly embrace a metric revolution. You can start it though, as the people that I surround myself with professionally are really slow to embrace change and would most definitely shun the metric system... the internet???? what's that?? =)

This is really great news. While it doesn't seem like a big deal to most, it really is a huge time saver to be able to skip that extra key stroke, especially when you are trying to create a quick render from a giant base plan.

Metric does make more sense, of course.
But in rural Canada most small building contractors still prefer the old imperial dimensioning ...
and plywood sheets (usually the governing module for houses) still come in 4'x8' sheets.

During my apprenticeship worked both Imperial and metric, it was a long transition period when metric was introduced in Aus.
Then it was smooth sailing for ages with metric, until I joined my current company which is US owned, so now I work with imperial measurements, funny thing is I convert the imperial value in my head so I can visualise it in metric, I must be going nuts! :)
But the strangest thing is we receive 3D data from the US in metric, work that logic out!!

Alot of the CAD packages do their work internally in metric and just present the converted value to the user as imperial.

I use a CAD package in feet and inches and it exports to MoI or Rhino as MM. Probably what you are seeing there Danny.

I recently received a machine part.... a drive shaft.. 1/2 inch diameter, with M5 metric threaded holes on each end.
Each hole is 1 inch deep. Ahhhahahahaha (hysterical laughter). Made in China....

We are going to heck in a handbasket! Let's mix and match....

Or as it stands on a sign at the Long Island Express way: Islip Airport -> 1 Mile/1 Km

In Sweden a mile is 10 kilometers!

The "official" British mile is 1.6093 Kilometers.

How any advanced country can not be completely metric in the 21st Century?

(Like, back in my day, you had to have 10% of a house price as deposit and loan repayments could not exceed 13% of the MALE (only) buyers income!)

Brian several industries still use imperial as a standard regardless of their location in relation to the US. I'm not arguing that metric is not easier to learn and apply system, I am however citing the fact as mentioned earlier that every cad package I know of can swap back and forth the units with a couple of clicks so it is really a moot point. As for the Mars lander they were probably off by more than a decimal place to say the least and an organization like NASA should have a strict QA program that requires all work done to certain standards and they managed to launch us another $125 million into debt......

By the way the request at the start of this thread to be able to enter feet & inches input with the last " sign missing (like type 5'2 for the same as 5'2") has been enabled now since the Nov-21 v2 beta.
