Michael, as usual, thanks so much.

Sorry that it again took up your time but it again suggests, maybe, some categerisation of things into pigeon holes applicable to an end user?---well, just a thought.

See, you are completely to blame!------you are just far to good in helping people!

This customer closeness really is a wonderful breath of fresh air.

Hi Brian,

I guess it would solve that problem!

But also at the same time add additional work and processes and things for me to worry about for each beta release... That part I'm not so sold on! :)

If I have to worry about too many things for each beta it will tend to make me release fewer of them to cut down on the additional work.

It's a lot easier for me to just list all the changes and not really dig into much extensive detail about which categories of users each particular one can be helpful for... Probably the best policy is if something sounds like it is not useful for you then it is best to just assume that it is not something that applies to your particular work.

That's not to say that I don't mind explaining a few particular things that you might be curious about! But in general it just is not practical for me to go into great detail on every single thing, especially when for many of the things it would just be an elaborate explanation on why it is not useful to you in particular...

Ok - both of these reported SketchUp bugs (missing faces when a polygon's points are too close together, and unit system scaling wrong) are now fixed up for the next beta release, thanks for reporting them!

Hi Michael,

In regards to the 3D view projection and Rotation Style, I set them to Parallel and Free rotation respectively but when I launch MoI again they default back to Perspective and Rotate around Z axis, is there something I'm missing, I thought these setting were meant to stick in the moi.ini ?

Thanks
~Danny~

Hi Danny - re: 3D view rotation and Projection style settings.

I can't seem to repeat the problem over here with the view the Rotation style setting, it seems to stick for me as expected when setting it to Free rotation.

Did you possibly have more than one instance of MoI.exe running when you changed the settings? MoI will write out its settings when the program is closed, so if you have more than one instance it is possible to get settings overwritten with the last closed instance winning. Maybe that's what happened to you.

Can you try again with making sure just one instance of MoI is running?

That's all for the rotation style though, the projection style is different since that is actually a property of the viewport which then gets saved and read back from a .3dm file that you write out.

Currently when you change that projection it changes it for that viewport for that current file, not for the start-up default.

It's sort of similar to the 3d view angle - when you rotate the 3D view to a particular angle and close MoI it does not then set that angle as the default view for the next time you start up, but it does get saved and restored when you save or open a .3dm file...

I'll see about adding some kind of mechanism to allow this to be set at startup though.

Hi Michael, congrats for the new update, I finally have some time to work with MoI again.

Just a little question about the free rotation mode, I really love it. Just wondering if, for you, it will make sence to lower the aroud X rotation sensitivity a little bit compare to the around Z axis. Maybe I don't have good understanding about how it actually work 'internally', but I feel the navigation a little bit harder compared to modo for example, I personnaly have some difficulty to do an 'around Z' rotation and maintain the pitch angle horizontally.

So basically it will take more mouse/tablet distance to rotate around x (pitch) than rotate around the z (heading).

Maybe I have this feeling because Moi navigation sensitivity is much more higher than my poly modeler. It would be nice also to have a global navigation sensitivity option, like the one we have for 3D connection device maybe.

Again thanks for the update :)

Hi PaQ, you're welcome, and I'm glad that the new rotation mode is helpful to you.

Currently the way that the rotation works is that it converts a certain amount of pixels traveled into an angular rotation value. And it treats vertical and horizontal pixel traveling to be the same.

For the next beta I will add in a moi.ini setting that will allow you to apply a scale factor to this conversion so you can experiment with turning down the sensitivity to see if that will make it feel more comfortable for you.

Hi TwinSnakes,

> Any idea how much the v2 update will cost?

I think that probably the full cost of v2 will be $295, and the upgrade from v1 to v2 will be $100.

That way v1 owners can upgrade to v2 and will only pay the difference in price between the full versions.

I have a problem with units.

Export from SketchUp an elevation as DXF, only edges selected, units meters. Import DXF in Rhino, units meters. Save this file as 3dm.
Open 3dm in MoI, units millimeters. Same in MoI 1.0. Am I doing something wrong?

Regards,

George

Hi George, sounds like some kind of bug.

Could you please post or e-mail the .3dm model to me at moi@moi3d.com so I can take a look at what might be going wrong in getting the units?

Thanks

Here is a Meters file straight from Rhino. I tried the tol settings but didnt affect the mm read in MoI. Thought I'd pass it to the master.

Hi Burr, thanks - I see the problem now. Actually the same exact thing happens if you read the file into rhino version 3.0 .

It seems that Rhino version 4.0 has a change to the .3dm file format that is not compatible down to the v3 version reader, which is what MoI currently uses.

To get the units across properly in this case you will need to save from Rhino as a v3 3DM file and then that should work.

Hi George & Burr - I've fixed this up for the next v2 beta so that units will be read in properly from v4 Rhino files.

For the time being saving as a v3 Rhino file instead should also make them come through.
