hi all,
i just purchased MOI and also downloaded the v2 beta.
overall i am VERY impressed by this application, love it so far very much. my first attempts are very promising in it.

however i am a bit sad to see that there are no layers at all yet?
i hope this is in the plan to come in next time?

i am doing fairly complex modelling and without layers honestly i cant use MOI much.
so please please please add layers support. i think it would help the organizing and workflow much in this otherwise great software:-)

thanks
stefan

Hi Stefan thanks for your order!

A layer type mechanism is definitely planned for v2, it won't be much longer before I start to work on it.

Hi ...

I have mentioned this before ... I hope it will be compatible with Rhino 4 as I use Flamingo for my renderer.

cheers

Hi eric - it should be as long as you stay within the bounds of what Rhino is set up for. Basically if you have an object assigned to only one tag, then that should go through as layers in Rhino.

If you assign an object to more than one tag, then they won't have an exact match to Rhino's layers because traditional style layers cannot have that kind of an arrangement.

Hi Michael ...

That sounds great! I think it will work for me beautifully.

I find MoI a great tool for modeling basic architectural shapes but buildings often have a lot of different materials so I use numerous layers.

I really look forward to being able to use MoI for most of my modeling and then assigning materials to the layers using Rhino/Flamingo.

At the moment when I have a lot of potential layers it is pretty awkward to sort them out after the fact so I am am not using MoI as much as I would like.

thanks,
eric

What about some sort of references (like 3ds max xref objects or autocad xref)?
Sometime I need to import the same .3dm a lot of time inside moi.
In this way could be possible to have some instance of the same external model (if we are lucky with less memory use).

What do you think?

Hi Luca, definitely a kind of instancing system would be useful, no doubt about it.

But it does take quite a bit of work to make it happen, I would like to add it into MoI eventually but I don't think it will fit into the v2 time frame though.

At some point in the future though!

Hi Luca, actually the most tricky part is in designing the UI to manage the instances.

Things that involve a lot of complex UI will tend to come rather slowly into MoI because I don't want to just rapidly increase the complexity of MoI's interface...

I totally agree with you about the UI. What I thought it's somehting like a "link" button instead of the "import"one.
These file can only be moved and rotated (not sure scaled) and not modified.
Nothing complicated like autocad include, bind, load, unload, merge....

But, as I said before moi as to remain as "simply (don't get me wrong)" as possible.
