Michael,
I would like to render it but have never done such a thing. I am making these models more for cnc carving in the future. Are there any free rendering programs I could try?

Hi Damian, there are a few few free rendering programs listed in this thread:
http://moi3d.com/forum/index.php?webtag=MOI&msg=1476.1
But many of them tend to be a bit elaborate and somewhat difficult to use initially at least.
One that people seem to like is
Carrara
from Daz3D - which isn't free but it is inexpensive.
But it sounds like you may not need to do any renderings anyway since that is not what you planned to do with the model!

Still it would be cool to render it. I think I'll give it a try at least. I'm always looking to learn something new.

The Carrara 3D Basics--from which you can update to the great Pro version as you progress, may be a good choice.

Truespace 7.6 is free for all now. The V-Ray plug-in is only $300.
You should always pick up a copy of 3d world magazine, they give away a lot of free versions of software. About a six months ago Carrara5Pro was free.
