Boolean Heaven

I saw a question on one of the Major apps threads about how to do this in poly modelling.

Sounded difficult but really simple in MoI I thought. (And, would a non nurbs be any good either?)

I took it into Carrara to render and added a twist.
Is that twist possible in MoI?

Brian

MoI does not have any type of "twist" function. But you could rotate each row of cutting objects before you execute the boolean to punch out the holes. End result will retain the roundness of the holes, unlike the twisted version which will create a shearing effect on the holes...

I've seen Michael post on this a few times Brian. Boolean is a way of life in NURBS but in Poly it's almost a No no. Seems it never follows down road well in a poly modeler!

I dont think theres a tool to twist that in MoI after it's created, but could you use a Helix as a path to array your original boolean objects to be twisted?

I'll poke around with you and see.

Burr

Brian,
Here's a bit of poking I did. I created the tube, then a few objects to diff. I used the circle array, angle 30, vert 2 with the center of the tube as a start point. It creates a good rotation, though as Jonah said, It's not actually "Twisted" if thats what your looking for.

Anyway, Talk to you later,
Burr

Good fun! (Could be done in Carrara for those who have it)

Hey Burr, this was a really cool use of the "vertical step" option in Array Circular! Great idea to use that.
