Hi,

I have a macbook pro (leopard) and downloaded a trial version of moi v1.0. I got it to work perfectly under Parallels 3.0 build 5600 running Windows XP.
Make sure you use the following virtual machine settings:

memory: set video memory to the maximum size of 64Mb, my main memory is set to 2048Mb
video: disable Direct X Shaders and disable custom screen resolutions

I have not seen any display artifacts so far using these settings. If you use the default lower video memory size and enable custom resolutions, you'll get the direct x errors mentioned in other posts.

Hi Dave,
when trying to find these things to change, I have had no luck in finding anything but the size of the display. Is there a place I am supposed to look at for the options to change this information? Thanks

Hi Dave, thanks for posting the info - that is great news that Parallels is now handling DirectX well!

It would be cool if they could maybe enable it by default...

Moe - to edit those settings it looks like you do the following:

quote:

Editing Configuration
Launch Parallels Desktop by clicking its icon in the Dock or its alias on the Mac OS X desktop. Choose the virtual machine from the Select virtual machine dialog and click Select. The Configuration Page of the virtual machine appears, and you can see the list of virtual hardware in the Configuration area.
To edit the virtual machine configuration:

Click the Configuration link or any device link in the list.

Choose Virtual Machine from the Edit menu.

That's from http://www.parallels.com/en/support/desktop/documentation/
"Parallels Desktop for Mac Quick Start Guide", Chapter 7.

That opens up all the configuration for different devices on the virtual machine and there should be some things listed for "Video" and "Memory" that you can click on to set different options that Dave mentions above.

I think you may need to stop the virtual machine from running before you can edit its configuration settings.

Hello,
on my MacBook Pro these settings are not working! (OsX 10.5.4 Parallels 3.0 Build 5608)
At the moment MoI is the only reason to work under bootcamp :-(
Is there anybody with VMWare2.0 (supporting DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2) experiences?

Best regards, Rossi

Hi Rossi, I have not tested it myself but I have heard from someone that VMWare with DirectX support was working for them.

I'm not sure why Parallels is not working for you when it has worked for others, maybe it has something to do with different video cards between the other person's system and your MacBook Pro.

Hello,
i had read on several web pages that Parallels 4 (coming soon) will contain full support of DirectX9.
I hope that all problems solved with the new Parallels version.

Hi there,

just installed Parallels 4.0 and Windows XP/SP2 on a MAC OS 10.5.8 and, what can I say, without any additional adjustments MoI runs as fine as it does on a regular Windows computer.
So far so good and because I haven't tried the whole functionality of MoI yet, I'll report any trouble in case there will be some.

Hi ,

I'm running MoI with parallels 3 without problem, i'm beta testing parallels 5 right now,
and MoI is running faster on 5.

Check is you are on the lastest parallels 3 release, and i believe you have to unchecked
hardware directx or something like that under parallels configuration, try many video setting
you will make it works

A+

I've got a MacBook Pro and have able to run all versions of MOI under Parallels 3 and 4. The big difference I found was that under Parallels 3 I could never get out of the 4 Window Mode (Top, Perspective, Front, Right) and go to single Window Mode without crashing. Parallels 4 fixed that and I've never had a problem with it since upgrading some months ago. I would strongly suggest going to 4 unless 5 is just right around the corner. I think an upgrade is something like $39 or so. I think Direct X 9 is supported under Parallels 4 so you can play a number of Windows games if you're into that.

Good luck.
