Hi Group,

I'm starting to create a 'standards' parts library for when modeling in MoI, here's one to share,
Hex nuts and bolts, Open two sessions of MoI and copy and paste to your project.
I left the ends without a chamfer on purpose so you can extrude to length then chamfer.

When I have a spare moment more will come, feel free to contribute if you like.

Oh Yeah, I could delete this file down the track so I can claim back some attachment real estate
so it's best you download it now.

Enjoy

MoI Nuts & Bolts

Hi Danny...

Your Bolt looks very nice. Thats will bring us to mechanical side of MoI.
Interesting idea :)....

As you are a NX user, how about create std parts inside NX, import to MoI then save as 3dm ?
Have you experience on this ?

Thanks for your impressive work !!!

Hi Danny,

You can find many many parts from www.3dcontentcentral.com in IGES format that can be easily to MoI. And also fully editable ;)
Give me know if you have another download site in IGES.

Have a nice download ;)

Thanks !!!

Update :
Choose IGES format when download a file

Great thank you !
A parts library would be cool !
I posted some time ago that maybe we could see some
snapping prroperties stored in the 3dm file .....
somewhat like in skp files.
you load a bolt and it snapps to a surface wherever you put it etc.

Hi Anis,

>> As you are a NX user, how about create std parts inside NX, import to MoI then save as 3dm ?

That's exactly what I did, I had some spare time and it's very easy to generate standard parts in NX
you don't actually model anything the model is generated from your selection from a list, had to set
it up as you see it, export the lot as iges fixed a few unjoined faces in MoI and added the text.

>> You can find many many parts from www.3dcontentcentral.com

Yeah, we use this site at work for odd bits and pieces but it'll take you a long time to
download and arrange 54 parts (Hex nuts n bolts).

Hi Burr,
>> Are you doing this locally or here on the site? Great Idea and I would like to help.

Yeah... I was thinking about that, there are a lot of online storage sites or I was thinking to utilize the space
you get with your internet provider.

Danny,
Ask if I can help any way.
What was your idea? are you going to just start grabbing things as they pass and create a repository for it?

I was thinking a "sticky" here in the forum that you could moderate. (Mark as accepted or not) deleted weekly, and the accepted 3dm's get archived off for disc distribution or web download, even a site that can browse available content. Of course it has to be done without to much burden on Michael while he's creating, but he could probably give you sticky rights.

I could help you with dirty work or other (You mark files as Content, I download and categorize and such). I have a 1 TeraByte NAS that can be utilized for this somehow.

Let me know if you had other plans,
Burr

Hi Burr,
I haven't really given it any thought yet, I just started for personal use and I thought I'd share it with the group.

>> I was thinking a "sticky" here in the forum that you could moderate.

That's one Idea, let me have a think about it because of the time factor involved, I haven't any ! ;)
Maybe we wait for some other ideas as well.

Hi Burr, Hi Danny - re: sticky topic - just a quick note - I've generally tried to use the wiki (http://moi3d.com/wiki) to hold links to things as the main kind of "sticky" type mechanism.

If you have something posted that you want other people to find, the best way to make that happen is to put it on the wiki (probably on the Resources page)- I can do it for you or you are certainly welcome to edit the wiki yourself as well.

- Michael

Michael has mentioned before that the very cheap App, ViaCAD, can often be handy to supplement/compliment MoI.

ViaCAD comes with some 239MB of symbols which can be saved as IGES files and brought into MoI and then extruded to get results as in the attached image.

Hope this proves valuable
Brian

Just downloaded and installed and uninstalled ViaCAD. For me it didnt provide anything I'm interested in. MoI has (will have) everything there. It imports 3dm but not export. I exported a boolean op and it showed up in MoI as all original peices. No booleans. I imported Moi and it needed work to get a useable file. It's a cool app but not for me.

I'm going to mow over how I can set up the content thing without burdening Michael. Native Moi 3dm's will be invaluable to the new MoI user Michael targets.

Talk to you later,
Burr

In the program files dir is a folder named Symbols. Use open or import ViaCAD.

Archi symbols are in the AEC folder.

C:\Program Files\Punch! Software\ViaCAD 3D V6\Symbols\AEC\Arch Symbols

Under ViaCAD top of screen---------Window>Concept Explorer>Symbols> Arch Symbols(A-to-I)

Also, ViaCAD is great at dimensioning your MoI efforts.
