Wingtip help required.

I've come across a problem I just can't seem to solve and thought I might put out there for the experts who might be able to advise.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get nurb surface on the wingtip of the aircraft that creates a nice transition from the rounded front of the wing to the somewhat sharp trailing edge of the wing.

I've tried loft, rail sweep, blend and network. I've also tried many combinations of dividing the linework of the wingtip up, but so far no success.

Attached is the 3dm file to experiment with.

Hi Kevin,
I would use network here, the problem is you have to separate your curves like in the picture, each colour represents a seperate curve, seven in total.
You would then network the top skin first, then the bottom one ( or visa versa it doesn't matter) then use join to sew all the surfaces together.

Top skin, pick lines, green, orange, cyan, yellow and Magenta then Network.
Bottom skin, pick red, orange, cyan, blue, magenta then Network.
Then join all surfaces, done.

Hi again Kevin,
I just noticed a small kink in the surface, if you look at the pictures these 2 curves are not tangent, not a smooth transition between them (G0) and is causing a small irregularity in the surface, in context it probably wouldn't matter, depends how fussy you are.

@Marco : Seems cool: What have you used?
@kevjon: try to put your object at the origin of the grid (it's more easy after for corrected ;)
There is also a little error in the original (image 2)
Gordon = Network
But I am not sure that is the good solution because there are some inflexions (last image)

With Sweep 2 rails and half parts but I have not the Marco's result (any lines resulting) :)
You can also take Rail 1 as profil and profil as Rail 1 ;)

Thanks guys. The result is not exactly what I want to achieve which is a nice smooth transition from leading to trailing edge but its probably about as good as I'll get and have to accept it I think. I have tried so many other combinations without success. Thanks also for pointing out the flaw in my curves.

You have some good sweeping ideas there but network seems to give a better result without the lines resulting.

Hi Kevin,
Small tip, the surface will be as good as the underlying curves driving it. the better the curves are developed and the more accurate, the better the surface will be.

Thanks Danny, that is really good advice and could well be part of the reason why I'm having problems getting a good surface and mesh from the wingtip. I think I'll rebuild those wingtip curves from scratch before applying the final surface.

This is the wing of a Bf109-F (WWII aircraft)

I thought I would post this problem here. I cannot create a wingtip that gives a smooth transition from the leading to trailing edge of the wing. Using the technique I've used (2 rail sweep and the scaling rail). It gives a bulged crimped wingtip.

As I suggested in another thread, perhaps if MoI had the ability of tweaking surfaces with point editing I could then tweak this wingtip to the correct shape as it is almost what I want.

Perhaps there is another way of approaching the modelling of the wing and wingtip so it gives the correct result, I am open to any suggestions help or advice ?
