Hi,
I just installed moi_Oct-9-2006_setup.exe and I don't see the viewports grid and view controls. The controls appear when I "mouse over".
I also cannot see what I draw (well, I think I'm drawing.)
Computer specs:
Windows XP Pro SP2
Athlon 64 3000+
1 GB RAM
3Dlabs Wildcat VP880 Pro 256MB Bios 3.09, driver 3.1.842.0
Monitor is a Wacom Cintiq 18SX
Thanks,
-Marc

Hi Marc, I have heard of some problems with some other older Wildcat cards.

Those cards are kind of the reverse of typical - they have focused most of their energy on making it run well with OpenGL and not so much with Direct3D. MoI happens to use Direct3D. Older Wildcat cards didn't support Direct3D at all, but the newer ones (including yours) are supposed to.

I see that here there is a slightly newer driver version here ( 3.1.852): http://www.3dlabs.com/support/drivers/product.asp?bypass=1&category=1&os=17&driverlang=&prod=271&drivertype=1

That might be worth trying.

What color depth are you running your desktop on (Control panel / Display / Settings tab / Color quality setting). If it's not 32-bit color, that might be the problem.

Are your viewports a white screen with the text "Unable to create Direct3D9 device" in the corner? Or do they look different than that?

Hi Michael,
That was it, the newest driver took care of it and the display is now perfect.
Thanks

Great! I'm glad that you're up and running. It should be fun to use MoI with a Cintiq, please let me know if you run into any difficulties.

Yep it's great.
I'm convincing the designers here to get their hands on MoI. One did so far and he is enthousiastic.
First comments;
-Would like the ability to model half of a symmetric model and see the other half with tangency restraint build at the same time.
-Background bitmap would be nice. But I'm pushing them to sketch directly in MoI if possible...
-To lock some geometry, so we could import reference components and model around them.
I'll keep notes of them as they come.
Thanks Michael, it's very promising and they and like the look of it so far.

> symmetry + tangency constraint.

This one is fairly difficult to achieve, I don't think it will be able to get into V1. But it is on my radar as a desirable feature.

> Background bitmaps & lock

These ones should be coming in not too long.

Sounds great, it is very useful for me to get this kind of feedback. Documentation is limited right now, please don't hesitate to post here if you have any questions on how anything works.

It should be easy for you to share data between MoI and Rhino, please let me know if you have any problems in this area. You can also copy and paste between MoI and Rhino as well.
