Hi there,
new to Moi, let me know what you all think of the earpiece. I started in Moi and brought it into Modo to put it all together and to do a basic render without textures. Thanks

Looks great! When you have a piece that looks this good without textures, you know that is going to be a great foundation for the final image when textures are applied.

Hi Paolo,
I used the LWO exporter and in some cases I used the 3 and 4 point poly exporter and then others I used the n-gons dependent on the piece of the model and how it came out. It was a lot of trial and error on selecting the method. Thanks for the feedback!

lol I like the design of your bluetooth more than the one I bought. I would also make it so it can go on either side of the ear too.

The model looks great. I have that same earpiece, and you nailed it pretty good! But you MUST do something to improve the lighting. If you don't want to spend time on lights, ground plane, etc then at least you should add an HDRI and enable the GI. This will dramatically improve your image with very little effort...

The rendering is really improving.
Would these suggestions be welcome?
The background "merges" a bit with the object.
You may need 2 or 3 lights(Did you have 2?)---each with a different "strength"
(If you could download or PM that last file (.obj) I could maybe (!) show better what I mean.

There is no "right" answer--lots of learning if you just take time to think of all sorts of alternatives and try them out.
What rendering app do you use?

Brian

ps. The attached shows just one lot of "inbuilt" lighting settings in Carrara. I have circled to show a whole lot of additional ones!
Choices, choices, choices!

Sorry if I am being critical--part of the learning process!

The background is much more contrast appropriate but you have lost a lot of the fine detail rendering that was in the earlier (last) one.
Was it because of the view angle?

The silver probably is more "correct" but you had some "special" great detail shadings in the blacks before.
Hope that helps.
Brian

You know that is a lot better!
Now, 2 things---maybe.
1. Would adding a little disturbance texture to the greys at the bottom and the ear piece help?
(see attached.)
2. (If that is not sufficient) Can you add a second, soft light, which is "instructed" to shine only on those grey parts--and placed off to one side, ---add more 3D effect to those grey parts? (Giving those greys a 3D look, again as shown a bit on the attached---especially to the ear piece)
3.OR-- Would doing 1. ---AND adding a degree of transparency, just to the ear piece, have a good visual result?

I am having fun--hope it helps!
Brian

AND--another next step, look for a background image that might even better lift the object more into looking 3D?
Again, maybe of the style attached?

And, if you want FREE background images, 750 sets of here!(Probably where this one came from originally)--You may have to join (free)

Hi Brian, thanks for your feedback especially on the lighting it really helped me take a look backward and look at what was missing. I don't however want to make it more 3d looking I was going more for realistic looking model. I do want to make the rubber ear piece a bit translucent so it will be similar to the actual Motorola device. Thanks again take care.
