Here's a work in progress. I'm a new MoI user and I was amazed and how well MoI handled some of these difficult (for me at least) shapes and blends. It's rendered in Lightwave. Obviously there's lots left to do. The engines are not complete, there's no surface detail, no guns, no interior details etc. I'll add more later. Comments most welcome :)

Thanks guys! Actually, I think the next one for me will be a Typhoon or Tempest. A great test for MoI! But first, this one has a long way to go.

Thanks for putting a very nice Illustrator export in MoI Michael! I use it to trace texture guides in MoI and export them to Photoshop thereby completely bypassing Frustrator...I mean Illustrator. I love it. Is there any way to include single points in the Illustrator export? That would be nice.

Cheers.

Hi Len,

> Is there any way to include single points in the Illustrator export? That would be nice.

As far as I know there isn't any way to specify a single "point" type object in an .ai file - it only has points in it that are part of a bezier path outline shape...

Unless there is some convention that is not really well documented.

If you can find an example .ai file that has single point objects in it like you want, please send it to me so I can see how it is structured.

I was thinking something like this. Just a single click with the paint brush tool with the default round brush set at 1 point. The size can easily be changed to .5 or whatever. It would be real handy for placing rivets but I may be the only one that really cares about that :)

Cheers!

Hi Len,

> Just a single click with the paint brush tool with the default
> round brush set at 1 point.

Those seem to end up being slightly lopsided little circles made up of 2 segments / 7 points apiece...

It's probably not really an intentional way to represent a point in there, more kind of a side effect of the paint brush tool.

But I have added a note to the wishlist to try and add an option for exporting points as little circles when I next get a chance to work on AI format stuff.

In the meantime, you could probably use Petr's CopyToPoints custom command from here: http://kyticka.webzdarma.cz/3d/moi/#CopyToPoints to get the job done - that should allow you to draw a little circle, then use that CopyToPoints command to replicate that circle to all the points, then export, then undo to remove the little circles.

Hi guys,

Got a little more done. Started to lay out the basic scene. Still much more detail to go the the B17 itself. I'm not happy with the cloudwork yet but it's coming. Any comments welcome!

Cheers

Love the work--going well.

With rivets, Carrara has a great shader plug in "Enhance C" which gives great effects.
It is highly adjustable--the attached is just one quick example.

Did a little more work on the ground and clouds. The flak bursts still need some work.

Then on to finish the aircraft itself...

smasher, I got your email but I can't resopond to it. Can you send me a PM?

Looking really nice.

I wonder if the glass in the nosecone is sort of too transparent somehow?

Ha! Very impressive. I noticed that black strips on the leading edge of wing....I thought the B17 hadn't had a "goodrich", i.e. mechanical de-icing system... but I was googling and yes, it had :)

Oh, it certainly is too clear Michael. The next major task is texturing the whole aircraft part of which will be the glass. Right now it has nothing. Then I have to add all the interior, gunners, pilots, bomb aimers, sights etc., etc.

Loooooooong way to go yet :)

Then also there has to be way more B17's in the shot and some fighters in the distance and some smoke on the ground....

I'm tired just thinking about it now :)

Hi Brian,

I don't have Carrara to to try that but I do have a scheme in mind for adding rivets (in Lightwave). WWII enthusiasts are really picky so the rivets have to to in their actually locations (thousands of them). That will be fun...

Here's a little more work on texturing this one. Obviously, there are still parts missing (some guns, interior etc). Just working on the skin.

How do you manage each parts?
Export / Selected , Import or do you work with only one model?

Actually, in this case I exported the entire model. Some of the small parts like gun barrels etc. were done in Lightwave.
