Hi Dan,

I have gone as far as I will with this. So have made 2 quick renders.

I don't think your shaders/rendering do justice to your modelling!
What app are you using?

(If you are on a learning curve in that regard, if you download your MoI file maybe some of us might highlight the vision potentials?)

I think it looks great! Just maybe an unusual background with the patio type environment...

Are the engraved lines booleaned in?

Fantastic job, manz!
Would you be so kind as to give us some feedback on your workflow?
Did you follow the tutorial literally, or did you find some shortcuts with MoI?
Were there passages in which you got stuck because MoI doesn't currently perform that kind of operation?
Please, let us know. It could help a lot both beginners and pros.
All the best
Daniele

Hi Michael,

>>>I think it looks great! Just maybe an unusual background with the patio type environment...

It was just a very quick render. I dont normally even render most of my models, I just build them then delete them.

>>>Are the engraved lines booleaned in?

I did attempt that on the above model, but had problems. But I found that was due to bad construction early on (I must of been snapping to incorrect end points etc lol) So I rebuilt the main form, then made booleans for the engraving, which did work after making increase in size of the part to boolean out.

Hi Dan,

I am still finding my way around MoI, I have only been using it for about a week (a couple of hours a day), so still trying to find the best direction to follow.

I did not bother to set up, just used a space/setup I had already.

No problem.

I have been playing more with the etching/booleans.

Hi Brian,

I see you are using Carrara (HDRI) for rendering.

Yes Manz.
It seems the best thing to use for jewellery type rendering.

Hi Brian,

I do have Carrara 6 pro (along with other apps), I purchased that some time ago, but have only recently had spare time to start looking at it. I do like its import ability (it even imports the 3dm files directly), and the fact it gives full lists (even with pic) of each object.

I will have to look more at the rendering capability.

Regards,

Manz.
From all I read, Carrara rates very highly as a top notch renderer.
Compared to every other app I own or have tried, I find the system and workings of the Shader Room very easy/natural to use by a long way.
And then you can take your MoI model into the Carrara Vertex Room and do all sorts of things like Displacement Painting!.
Great fun.

Hi Brian,

I have been looking at Carrara, and do find it very interesting. I certainly need to learn lots more.

I made render of the my ring model (many times) but decided to post this (even though I could possibly get better (eventually))

This is the later version that I rebuilt.

To Michael, yes, for the etching, I used project/sweep/boolean, which worked very well.

Steve

That's a noticeable improvement, much richer and more lustrous feel.

Hi Michael,

Thank you, I do agree that textures etc within a render can make a big difference.

To all:
But detail within the model is if great value (IMHO) on such a closeup. I mentioned that I made boolean for the etching, but also made chamfer on the various cutouts (maybe not easily seen, but do apply) These where made easily with MoI.

A quick view of what I mean:

Yes, that render does justice to your modelling.
A lot of learning involved with lighting and rendering and Carrara is one of the bettere ones to easily learn and use.
Some very valuable plugins--at low prices--can really take you into another level (when you are ready).
