Lighting again...

Hey guys, first of all I have purchased my copy of MOI3d!
I'm very happy to add it to my workflow.

next, my major request has become the lighting issue.
It is becoming a major mental hangup while working in the software.
With half the model in darkness at most times, its not conducive to letting
one find solutions to shapes while working through a model.

I know that this will take time to address, but please dont' put it on
the back burner:)

thanks
Mike Fitz

Hi Mike, thanks very much for your order!

Hopefully I should be able to get started on V2 in not too long, and it shouldn't be too difficult for me to do some experimentation with different lighting styles once that is going.

Michael,
no problems on the order.
I had really been in need of a good solids cad type modeler!
thanks for making MOI3D!

Looking foward to any news on lighting.
thanks
Mike

Sorry to up this old post (it's the first one I have found about lighting).

I do agree so much :)

Looks like the fill light is a little bit to low, and looks more like a rim one.

I don't know exactly how it's the lights are setup in the other 3d package.

However here's the modo one:

<atom type="Lights">2</atom>
<atom type="LIntensity1">0.7</atom>
<atom type="LColor1">1 1 1</atom>
<atom type="LAngles1">0.9424778 -0.6283185</atom>

<atom type="LIntensity2">0.3</atom>
<atom type="LColor2">1 1 1</atom>
<atom type="LAngles2">-1.570796 0</atom>

I suspect there is also a ambient value of 5 or 10 % ...

I have attached an image of this default lighting, I have put some specular to have a better view of the lights position.

Certainly would be good for the ability to add / better control of lights, certainly as I am using the high_res screen capture directly from MoI quite a lot.

I do want to add different lighting options for v2.

The current one uses a single light but it is a kind of "double-ended" style, like you can see on a sphere that half of the sphere is not dark, there is more of a dark band around the middle which then goes back to light again on the other side.

One benefit of this method is it uses only a single light and is compatible even with very old video cards. I kind of wanted to nail down a basic type of lighting for v1 that would be broadly supported by a lot of even older cards, for v2 I want to mess around with some other lighting options that may require some more modern video cards with shader support.

It is possible in v1 to set up a shortcut key that will flip the light around to a different direction, that can help for now if you want to do some work in an area that is dark, the script for that is here: http://kyticka.webzdarma.cz/3d/moi/#ToggleLightDirection

Ho I didn't know it was a lighting trick for old gfx card.

I'm working on some architecture stuff with a lot of long planar surface, and It's visually tiring ;)

Thanks for the script, I will try it now.
