Reading through the tute movies I feel there is no strong point made about removing construction lines at the completion of an item or the later consequences of not doing so.

Strengthening of that work ethic principle and the discussion point of posts 1361.2 and 1359.6, could add to a "Basic Tutes" movie library.

Hi Brian, this is a great idea.

The only tricky part is that it is actually pretty difficult to create a tutorial with an audio track, it takes me a couple of days of work to do each one of those and have it come out nice.

So it may be a little while before I will be able to round up enough time to work on it, but when I do this kind of tutorial can be at the top of the list to add.

Michael the idea is that ,maybe , you may consider this idea and /or other aspects from the forums, that would be a help as "Basic Introductory Tutes" for MoI.

Definitely. It it is good principle for tutorials.

It will just be a while before I will be able to actually put it into practice by making a new tutorial, they are not that easy to make.

Hi Brian, those are both great tools - I actually use Camtasia Studio 5 over here.

But there is a lot more that goes into a video tutorial than just a recording tool, there is a lot of planning and practicing that needs to be done to get a good result with speaking included.

Without a lot of work, it is hard to get a good recording of your voice without a lot of "ums", pauses and other awkward things.

Although Camtasia studio and Wink are great programs, they unfortunately don't do anything to stop me from saying "um" from when I'm talking!

This is much less of an issue when not doing any voice recording on the tutorial.

But a full blown high quality tutorial takes a lot of effort to produce, it is not something that you just hit a button and record and you're done, unless you are an exceptionally skilled and practiced presenter.

For your video tuts, try to record with relax and a lot of pauses and second takes. Then edit this material in a video app. If you need help I am quite skilled in video/audio editing.

About the tutorial, in general, I don't like video tut because I do not speak (and write) english so much and during the video I loose 60% of informations.
I prefer (and, I think, other non English users) the 'static' step by step tutorials (like Rhino), that give me the time to 'try, retry an understand'.

I haven't been studying moi lately I'm kinda just concentrating on one design software right now although I like moi just no time I have made a couple vids in rhino and put on you tube if anyone is interested you can do the same things in moi the video is very clear when I make it but on you tube it gets blurry I made the first ones using camstudio but I could not get the audio to link up with the video always off so I made my last one ( "a hollowed ring")using camtasia much better don't count how many times I said umm http://www.youtube.com/schmidtpe

Yup, that definitely helps! :) Using this method (especially hitting pause after every 20 seconds or so) really helped a lot.

But it still isn't what I would call "easy" for me to do yet... All together it will still take me probably around 2 days to produce one that I am satisfied with.

I would think that eventually as I get more practice at it, it will take less time.

It's a tough choice for me, because a lot of other people have told me that they prefer videos...

I would like to eventually have some translations of the audio tracks into different languages, that should help.

The problem with the written down step-by-step ones, is that I think they will take actually quite a bit more effort for me to do than the videos. You end up with quite a lot of writing and a lot of screenshots in that format.

It can also be more difficult for me to convey the same information written down, it can cumbersome to explain all the little details.

I'd be glad to translate the audio track of your tuts into Italian. I promise I will exactly repeat your every "um"! :)

Hi Michael,
ok, for the 'static' tuts I think that some volunteer will 'unreel' (??) the videos down in some pdf file.

For your footage, another trick is: FORGET the record.
Press 'Record' and forget; sure you have hours of recording time on your HDD.
If you think you have to record something or have to do well until some point, sure you fail many times.
The so called 'red light panic' ;-)

Another thing you can do is:
- Record all the stuffs, taking care of audio.
- Use SW like SoundForge (pro/lite) or Wavosaur, (free and very good)
- Edit the audio, correct, re-record until you are satisfied.
- Now you have a 'master' audio track (the hard part!).
- Record the video, simply following your master audio track.
- Edit the video, if necessary.

For the best results, clean the audio track and apply a little 'compression' on dynamics.
An audio track that 'sounds good' is 80% of this kind of Multimedia file.
I sent you a file 'enhanced' in moi mailbox

This is a time consuming process but let you proceed constantly and without hassle.
