Wish: OBJ export workflow improvement

Hello,

if I try to save a complex model as OBJ, than I start the "save as" UI and will be asked for a file name. Than, MOI need a few minutes to calculate a mesh and that is the problem. If I don't like to use the previous mesh settings, than this calculation is not necessary and waste time only. Better would be, if the mesh options are asked befor the mesh calculation starts.
Simple wish or? ;o)

Best regards,
Micha

Hi Micha, what I intend to do is to start the meshing automatically like it currently does, but allow you to edit parameters while the meshing is happening, and if you make any changes the current meshing will be canceled and a recalculation started.

I have infrastructure in place to handle this automatically for regular commands, stuff like Fillets, etc - that's why there is generally no need in MoI for a "preview" type button. Any parameter changes within a command get applied automatically.

Mesh creation is different enough from a regular command that I need to do some extra work to make it function in the same way. I didn't have time to do that for v1 but I should be able to handle it for v2.

... and it could be nice, if the polycount of the mesh is shown at the mesh UI. So, the user could better decide, is the mesh small enough for low poly use or not.

Hi Micha, take a look at the upper-right corner of the main MoI window when you are exporting a mesh, the point and poly count are displayed over there.

This is to try and keep the dialog a bit more streamlined in size.

After some nearly 5 years of playing with 3D, I am just realising how good saving to .obj file really is.

After all that miss-learning of mine previously, why would anyone need to save for export into any other, universal, file format?

Ideally you wouldn't...

But unfortunately there are still some programs that don't support OBJ - for example SketchUp and I think AutoCAD.
