Michael,

Is there currently a way to create a closed loft ? (close the surface between curve 4 and curve 1 in the attached example)

Thx

There isn't a way to do it with loft right now, but it can be done with sweep as a workaround right now.

In the attached example, I created 2 rail curves along the top and bottom by using Draw curve / Freeform / Through points. Then select the 4 profile curves, and do a sweep with those 2 rails.

The resulting shape has a couple of shading glitches - you can fix these by going to Options and turning on "Add detail to inflections". I'm hoping to make this on by default after I have a chance to tune up the meshing a bit.

Yep,
The workaround works find and will be OK in most of the situations I can imagine...

Thanks ;-)

BTW, is there any limitation in the number of curves you can use as profiles ?

I think it's time to start a "Tips and Tricks" topic in the forum... :-)))

Nope, you should be able to use as many as you want.

But sometimes it can be a little frustrating if you try to build too much of a giant detailed thing just in one single enormous loft or sweep operation. It tends to be a bit more strategically helpful to do things in more managable pieces.

I mention this because sometimes I see people trying to create something like an entire car with just one loft with a huge number of sections.
