Curvature Combs

Michael,

The latest addon 'Section' that you've made for us is AWESOME...a much needed and welcome addition to MOI. Thanks for making it!

Can I ask you to do us another favor?

I would love the ability to have active Curvature Combs on curves, to ascertain their smoothness / evenness before committing them to a model.
There is an addon made by another community member (can't remember his name), the addon was called CCC.
That addon displays a Curvature Comb, but it is not live, meaning a lot more work going back an forth to analyze a curve.

I believe Rhino has an active Curvature Comb script, would something like that be possible in MOI?

Cheers,
Toby

Hi Toby, a curvature comb feature will probably need to be developed in the core display code, not in a script.

Scripts are designed to be used as "commands" where the script does its stuff and then exits. It can leave behind new objects and edits to objects but it isn't set up to leave behind live code that would update when a curve is modified.

I do want to add in some more entry points for where scripts can get triggered but it is a pretty tricky area. Having a lot of those can tend to destabilize the environment.

Hi Toby,
there's a curvature node in the nodeditor perhaps that will help.
Maybe it could be made into a standalone script.
Cheers
Barry

Barry,

Thanks for the neat idea...I've never used the node editor in MOI and have got it somewhat working as per your screen grab.

Couple of questions if you don't mind...
1, how did you connect the one selected curve to 2 outputs...for me it either one or the other.
2, After adjusting the points on my curve, is it expected to manually update the 'selected' node with right click? or is there an automatic way for the generated Comb to update itself?

Cheers, and thanks!

Toby

Hi Toby,
You must be using an old version of the nodeditor so you need to use the clone node to get the 2 outputs.
There’s a new version of the nodeditor on forum would suggest you find that.
Unless you create the curves within the nodeditor you will need to run it every time.
If you create the curve points within the nodeditor they can be moved ( X & Y ) with nodes
thus the curvature comb will update as you modify them.
Hope that make sense.
Cheers
Barry

Hi Barry,

I'm using the 1.1 version...think it's the same one as shown in your screen capture.
I'll have a further look around.

Cheers,
Toby
