Hi tom_tm (TOMF),
Your question is: what is the most effective way to split a single object into two separate parts?
BurrMan’s answer is clear and concise.
If you click on the ‘Help’ icon in the bottom right-hand corner and then on ‘Command Reference’, you’ll see all the commands. If you scroll down, you’ll see ‘Edit’ and, below that, ‘Trim’. Click on ‘Trim’ and you’ll find a detailed answer to your question (this complements BurrMan’s clear and concise answer).
To learn how to use any software properly and understand how it works, the first step is to read the help and documentation carefully to familiarise yourself with the software, then to carry out some simple exercises.
With Moi3D, this helps you realise that almost all commands can be used in several different ways depending on the situation, the context and the type of element you wish to work on (a line, a curve, a face, a surface, joined surfaces, a solid, etc.).
Admittedly, this initial step is somewhat thankless. But, in my view, it is the only way that will eventually enable you to master the software.
I’d like to refer you to a post I created in 2023. There you’ll find links to download exercises (some very simple, others rather tricky).
