Future of Moi3D on Apple Silicon?

Hi Michael,

I’m using Moi3D v4 on an M2 Mac and received the attached macOS warning about Intel-based app support ending.

I always keep macOS updated. Should I be concerned about the future of Moi3D on Apple Silicon Macs? Will a future macOS update eventually break Moi3D v4, and is there a recommended upgrade path?

Thanks.

Hi Khoe, Moi version 4 runs on Apple Silicon machines by using the built in Rosetta2 emulation. When Apple removes the Rosetta2 system which is scheduled for macOS 28 in fall 2027, MoI v4 and any other intel binaries won't work anymore.

MoI version 5 is a "universal binary" that contains both intel and arm64 (Apple Silicon) versions and will run there ok.

You can get the current beta release of v5 here: https://moi3d.com/beta.htm . V5 is close to being finished up, I'm trying to tie up a few loose ends.

Thanks,
- Michael
