"Cloned" persistence

I managed to find myself trying to create a part shape that paired with itself upside-down - like a hook that nested into a copy of itself in an Escher-like fashion by tweaking the original adjacent to an upside-down copy of itself. If we use the mirror operation, changes to the original are matched by the mirrored version, but not after the copy is flipped into the appropriate position to fiddle with the mutually-changing shapes. I managed to do this in a less-than-ideal way using Inkscape, as the clone continued to respond to the original changes after I rotated it into position. I then imported the .svg into MoI and ironed out the features, careful not to corrupt the fit. But is it possible to skip another program and retain the corresponding changes in the copy even after I have rotated and positioned it in MoI?

Hi halmi, yes it is possible to set that up in MOI.

You will need to use the "Make copies" checkbox in the Transform > Rotate command to make a 180 degree rotated copy.

After you have finished the rotate do not move the new rotated version by itself. You need to only modify the original object and not the cloned one.

Then select the new rotated copy and use Edit > History > "Enable update" so the copy will get updated when the original is edited. This is turned on by default for the result of Mirror, for other commands it's off by default so you need to turn it on.

Then for positioning, move the original object and you can turn on points and edit those on the original also.

Looks like this:
