Layers and DXF

i know this has come up quit eoften,
but Mois would be the perfect modelling tool for 90% of our work,
if only

A. MOI supported layers, first off to organise complex scenes inside Moi, but also a system that would import 3dm layers correctly, and that could export for exemple OBJ format in groups according to layers.
Without this, it is too tedious to have separate files for the different material types etc...

B. Moi would have a dxf import, to be able to bring in Cad plans into moi more easily.
It would also be good if 3d meshes would at least be imported as wireframe lines, to be able to use them as a reference. W

With these things implemented I could really imagine reyling mostly on moi for a lot of modeling,
love the intuitiveness

Hi Moka,

You can achieve this one now by using the converter program that I wrote - that will allow you to convert a polygon mesh .obj file into a .3dm file. You can then load the .3dm file into MoI - the .3dm file contains line segments that make up the wireframe of the polygon mesh.

See here for more info: http://moi3d.com/wiki/Resources#Obj23dmWireframe_converter

re: layers & DXF I/O, these should be a big focus for MoI version 2.0 .

It will take me a fair amount of time to work on the layers type mechanism, because I want to see if I can combine what are usually a couple of different mechanisms like groups and layers, into one single organization mechanism, with some more flexibility than regular layers provides.

I just didn't have enough time to work on designing that for version 1.0.

It's pretty much at the top of the list for v2 though, I think it will probably happen pretty early in the v2 beta cycle.

Thanks for the info,
the converter should be quite helpful.
