Hi All,

Raw newbe here. I'm going through the Blend the Bend tute now, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d8Gz7pBSKs,
and I'm at 1:26 now, the part where the tutor just slaps a planar patch over parallel holes. This fails for me. I think I didn't pull the inlet nozzle down far enough, and the empty regions are not close to being flat, in fact having a pronounced curl. Curl maybe too much for the Planar command.

But nothing else seems to work either, not Network nor Nsided. So I'm wondering what, IRL, I would do to finish it. Thought I would try asking.

thanks for help
whiff

Hi whiff, it would probably be a good idea to construct it as a flat object to start with and then use the Transform > Deform > Flow command to introduce the bending after the flat version is complete.

So in the attached example, select the object and run Construct > Planar:

Select the object and run Transform > Deform > Flow. Select the line here as the base curve:

Select the wavy curve as the target curve:

This will produce the bending:

This helps in several ways, it's easier to construct the straight initial model and with the bending being controlled by the shape of just one target curve you can produce variations easily by editing just that one curve:

Hope this helps!

- Michael

Very useful effect, glad I learned about it. Maybe a little more organic looking than I wanted,
though hugely versatile.

MoI is a first-class program. It's nice to work with something predictable.

For this particular exercise, I decided to retrace my steps.

thanks,
whiff
