Is the educational truly limitless for commercial reasons?

Hello everyone!
I'm interested in getting into MOI 3D and I'd like to get the educational license at a discount price while I'm still in university.

I've searched the forums but found contradicting information regarding the true terms of the educational license.

Some answers on the forums state the following:
- "There isn't any limit on what type of work can be done, it can be used for commercial work or whatever. The only difference from the regular version license is that the EDU version can't be resold and transferred to another person."

However, there was a EULA posted on one of these forums that clearly states the exact opposite:
- "This license is for an educational version of the software [...] This version is NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE, and may not be used for any professional, commercial, or for-profit work. This version is time-limited to run during one particular school year, when this version expires it will cease to function and this particular version should not be used after that [...] This version may insert watermarks or other labels in data that is created by it to identify the data as being created by a "Not for commercial use" educational version"

I'd obviously be more inclined to trust the author of the software but on the other hand, a EULA is a legal document and should have the final word, right? Were any legal issues to occur, I doubt a response on a forum would have the same value as a EULA.

So the question boils down to this: which of these is true? Is there any more information on the educational license somewhere?

Thanks for the help.

Hi John,

This is the correct one. You can find the EULA for the retail version here:
http://moi3d.com/4.0/EULA_retail.rtf

That's linked to by the main web site, https://moi3d.com > Resources > MoI End User License Agreement

Both commercial and EDU discount licenses use that same EULA.

The only thing that is in there that's specific to the EDU license is:
"Additionally, licenses purchased through an educational discount program may not be transferred or resold."

That's not the EULA for the regular retail version, it's for an experimental version that is time limited to run for a single school year instead of using an individual license key like the regular purchased version.

Can you please tell me through e-mail (moi@moi3d.com) where you found this EULA?

But anyway when you purchase an EDU license you won't get this 2nd EULA that you cite, you'll get the one above.

The trial version also has a separate type of EULA for it as well.

Thanks, - Michael

Michael,

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I really appreciate it.

I wondered if the EULA I found really was the correct one, I don't know how I missed the main one. I'm glad to know that my suspicions were right though.
I'll email you the links + screenshots of where I got the information from.

Your answer is crystal clear. It only makes me want to buy it ASAP though I wonder if I should wait a couple more months for potential updates.
I'll get my hands on it sooner or later either way :)

Thanks!
