Q : Suitable Laptop specs to run Moi3D Smoothly?

Hello,

I am introducing Moi3D to my niece, who has just started her first year in an Industrial Design program. She is currently in the process of choosing a laptop, and I would appreciate recommendations on the optimal specifications for a laptop that can run Moi3D smoothly, especially for handling complex objects such as trophies, toys, etc.

I would be grateful for any advice, particularly from those with experience in the same field. Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.

I use Moi3D from more 15 years !
on any computers (PC, Tablet ...) without any problem!
My actual Latop is more ten years... all works like a charm! ;)

Hi Elang, you have to get to a pretty high model complexity level before the specs really make much difference.

But if you do want to handle high complexity probably the top thing is to get a laptop with a dedicated Nvidia or AMD GPU.

Laptops that say they're focused on supporting gaming will have that.

Any computer will do.
Moi3D has the advantage to work with really old computers too, dual-core and quad-core as well, graphic memory 500 mb+.

So any laptop will do fine.
Recommended is instead to purchase a wide-screen monitor simply because
a 15-17 inch monitor with CAD-work isnt too optimal in many cases a 24 inch widescreen monitor
is of better usage.
Then you can extend the first monitor to the second and use that as a main work area.

But then again, to answer your guestion, any cheap laptop will suffice!

When you have a latop + 1 monitor or more you can use this sort of floatting window! ;)
Where there is all commands of Moi3D! ;)

Thank you very much for all suggestions.

I do aware that Moi3D can run smoothly even on an old low spec. However, I would like my niece to be able to advance later into much more complex 3D models so that maybe a higher spec laptop would secure the need. I'm looking to several gaming laptop now which still suitable to the budget.

Cheers.

That's a very nice setup, Pilou !

Moreover if it was a touchscreen, then we can access all tools more easily.

A touchscreen is in many cases counterintutive for Moi3D but not for Apps!

A professional method that the "big guys" over there is to use a num-pad.

Its a generic USB-tool with a tilted edge that you can script at your command.
Because if you have a downward screen you block the right arm.
Which takes energy and focus.

With a numpad (with tilted edge) you can freely use your
left arm to program the necessary Moi3D-functions!

Like add edge /boolean /substract /simply the working curve.
Or speed it up a notch!

Ex: usage of Num-pad. (the black thing on the left of the screen, besides the laptop) under the yellow-arrow.
The monitor below uses SpeedCrunch which is in my opinion a superiour calculator for CAD/CAM as for now...

1.Add point
2.Delete point
3.Reconstruct
4.etc,etc
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.

This is a custom-made Num-pad tilting block made of wood.

But there are pre-made of this kind, but they are very expensive.
But well worth the investment because of the less strain
on wrist and fore-arm work.

You can offcourse program it to do much much more!

Like: Using the Enter on the numpad, together with the numeric numpad (that also works as a keypad).
For example.
You want to change the diamter, you simply use your left hand to alter the values,
and then confirm the change with enter.
Supersimple, and superfast.

You work much more efficient this way (i believe)...

But whait this is even more.
With the other monitor (main monitor)
you can use a calculus program at the same time (not the same time as Moi3D)
but switch to another calculus, ex i use SpeedCrunch 0.12 which is an excellent calculator.
It has all the variations you put in it (with Num-Pad device) in the rows, so you can easy follow
if any value is off by 0,01 or more...

So i use the Num-Pad for both usages, both as a value-device, alterer i Moi3D
and as a speed-crunch number in the other monitor.
Very, very handy...
