Boolean Difference won't work.

Hello All,

I'm having some really odd issues. The attached file is the outline for a Star Trek Federation Starship's B-C Deck, that's the raised structure just below the actual bridge. I've swept the basic shape, then shown points and pushed-pulled the observation area in the back into position. Now, I'd like to Boolean Difference using the rectangle there as the cutting surface or plane, removing part of the B-C Deck. Afterwards, I'd like to mirror what's left to its symmetrical, then create a solid from it. However, MOI won't let me Boolean it. The Boolean Difference command simply won't work. I've also tried using a solid as the cutter to remove, and the same thing happens. I suspect I'm doing something SUPER BASIC wrong, and I'm just too dense to see what's right in front of me. Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Bob

Make a big box (top & bottomdown) from your rectangle
kill or hide all curves
Boolean Diff
Kill the rest

That wouldn't work, either. I tried solids, but no go. I was finally able to get it to work by Boolean Differencing each individual panel or surface, one after the other. Ugh... Thank you for the idea, though!

Hi Bob, I think the part where the booleans try to intersect the pieces is getting confused with there already being a cut through that same spot.

Instead of doing a boolean in this case you can select these faces and delete:
