Flow - again!

Hey All.

So I'm trying to create a recessed design in the shank of a ring. I'd like it to run from the top shoulder of the shank all the way to the base. I tried drawing the objects to the approximate length of half the shank but that didn't work so I scaled it down considerably but am still not getting the desired result.






Could someone please weigh in on what I'm doing wrong?

Hi Gunter,
your issue is the seam.
You can move the seam to the inside by rotating the ovals before or after sweeping.
To generate your base surface get the calc lengths of the top and bottom ovals and sweep curve length and produce the tapered surface this gives.
You can then produce the cutouts on this surface.

I have a couple of questions if I may:

1. You mention 'move the seam to the inside by rotating' - could I ask, the inside of what and how do I rotate them in that plane?

2. To generate your base surface get the calc lengths of the top and bottom ovals and sweep curve length. Is this the length you mean - see screenshot.

Hi Gunter,
perhaps the attach photo may help.
Using approximate calculated lengths to form base surface mimics unwrapped swept surface.
Moving the seam by just rotating your ovals 180 degrees moves the seam to the inside.

Maybe another solution ;)

I don't how you have drawn your object

Here with the Blend
Like this you can test all generative curves

With your object
Extrude each oval (careful to kill the 2 curves and faces for have only edges!
Make the Blend : during it move the points where you want for move the seam!
Of course at the end kill the ovoïd cylinders! ;) (not shown here)

Hi there

You will get a much better flow if you reduce the surface area to flow onto , just using the outside half of the band

With a lot less distortion
