HI all,

Would there be any interest in a basic clipping plane (aka section plane) functionality in MoI? I'm constantly asked for 'quick plan views' of things but if the geo is too complex I'm struggling...I know Rhino has something similar...

Hi Rich,

I used to think that I needed a clipping plane kind of thing, but now I'm not so sure it would actually be that useful.

If this is for views to show other people why not boolean away part of the model to reveal what you need to show? That's more flexible than a clipping plane.

Hi Rich, that's been a pretty frequent request so it's on my radar but it's a quite large area of work. It would probably need to introduce hatching and would involve work in both the display and export as well.

So it's difficult to know when it could happen, it won't be in the v5 time frame.

Yeah sometimes a boolean will fail etc., or take an undefined amount on time. Personally I wouldn't need a hatch to denote cut solids just something to 'hide the junk' above the line as it were ;)

I use quite often command Curve-Project, if I need cross section view.
Michael advice me this "hack" a long time ago :-)
