Hello
I have a little problem (not vital)...just for info ! :)
I can't load this OBJ inside SUB / Create from file inside MOi!
(_importObj idem)
https://moiscript.weebly.com/uploads/3/9/3/8/3938813/tmp3d1f4pzc.obj

My obj is from this incredible free thing made with my Wombo image!

Free: enter any image and you will obtain a file 3D OBJ or GLB In 5 seconds online!
https://huggingface.co/spaces/stabilityai/TripoSR

I can reload the file OBJ inside MeshLab without problem (even with original colors) No MTL file !

Hi Pilou, the Sub-D converter in MoI is designed to convert a mesh that is configured to be used as a Sub-D control cage.

Your object is not that type of mesh. You've got a dense triangle mesh generated from marching cubes output which is a very different type of mesh data.

So that is normal that Sub-D > Create > From file in MOI won't work with your file.

A Sub-D control cage should be formed with all quads with a relatively sparse structure.

Yours is nothing like that, it looks like this with 90892 triangles:

Thx for the Info I have suspected that! :)
So I must Decimate and/or make some auto remeshing with some tools like
this free one! ;)
... if i want really put this file in Moi for any reasons! ;)

Hi Pilou,

Yes you would need to significantly rework this mesh to be able to bring it into MoI.

In general you would be better off using a polygon mesh editing program to work on that type of data, not MoI.

So :)
All works like a charm! :)
Both solutions if wanted...

In five years all will be more precise from a 2D complex photo! :)

For what purpose though Pilou? What are you trying to achieve by importing that into MoI?

It was just a test for see the nature of the 3d object given by the Ai!

In fact that is just a quasi patato where an image is projected!

So remake the original 2D in real 3D is not yet for today! :)

Maybe in 5 years yes...

I see. But MoI does not really work very well as an "obj file viewer", the SubD conversion is meant to process a specific kind of OBJ mesh that has been set up to be processed with subdivision smoothing.

Other programs would be better to use for viewing an .obj file's structure. MoI is not designed to be used for that.

Hey Pilou,

Instant mesh is really not great at this quad recontruction job, I usually get way better result using Quadremesher : https://exoside.com/
While still producing cage mesh a tad complex for the Subd to Nurbs, I think it does a decent job at recreating the polyflow.

I think Rhino does have a version of that same quadremesher now too for that kind of complex mesh to Nurbs conversion.

Cool result...

Yep but it's not a free one! ;)
In any case if i really wanted i have Zbrush or 3DCoat for this sort of process... ;)

And I pretty sure that the free Meshlab can do it also but not in so easy way!

Well it's basically zremesher as standalone for most DCC ... if we talk about price Zbrsuh is like 500$/year subscription only now ?

Instant mesh was a nice milestone, but it's really bad ... main flow direction is often weird, high valance points are all cluttered (reason your Nurbs conversion is so badly diced). On the top it often create non watertight mesh and even broken geometry. I mean if you a really interest to quickly convert scan/triangulated soup data into "usable" nurbs model I don't think there is any better alternative for the moment (beside manual retopo)

But a such gaz engine when you have not used from years! :)
I don't want to touch it!

Not exactly same repartition than your...
