Hallo all!

Sorry i mean pattern.

I should draw such a muslim arabesc pattern, does anyone have an idea how to make something like this adapted to a frame?
Looks simple, but is not so.
I am enclosing a picture.

Thanks in advance.
Franz

Hi Franz,

From long visual observation only:

Each ten pointed star is surrounded by 8 stars with 5 points, plus 2 stars with 4 points.

So re-create this base pattern. MoI's Image command can load the picture, to aid re-creation.

There are a lot of parallel, narrow strips. Create them for one 10star pattern.
Star patterns can be used as boolean cookie cutters.

Then Tile this base pattern, for multiple 10stars, and refine.

The multiple complexity study is kind of like "meditation", or some such word, IMHO
- Brian

I may have a go, when computer is available...

10stars are in a hex, 6 sided pattern...

I see one slight "flaw". Upper right 5star seems to be missing a nubbin:-)

I searched for things like:

endless Muslim Arabesc Pattern svg
endless Muslim Arabesc Pattern dxf
endless Muslim Arabesc Pattern vector

and got things like these as results. Might find what you need looking with searches similar.

Thank you all for your help!

Thanks to Moi, so I managed it, but I still have to correct something a little, but after all, I work as a Christian for the imam, so it can't be perfect...

Best Regards
Franz

Franz, your result is a good looking design.

I am ignorant on the subject, but this pattern is a "geometric pattern". (A tessellation or tiling(?))
An "arabesque" is a different sort of pattern.
There are also "calligraphy" patterns.

The following link begins to describe these designs, (then tries to get people to sign up...)

Hi all!

Thank you all again, this topic is a broad one. We are to design the first Austrian Islamic prayer room in the military academy...

Hi Franz,

It seems like your work is progressing smoothly.

That pattern might be the same as the one on the cover of "Islamic Design: A Genius for Geometry" by Daud Sutton. I have the Japanese edition of this book.

The pattern exists in "Making Things Fit." I've only read it superficially, so I'm not sure if reading the book would help you understand how to draw it. It seems a bit difficult to me. However, the information in the chapter "Six for One" might be a hint, so if you don't have the book, it might be worth taking a look.

Like you, I have an interest in Islamic patterns, and just a few months ago, I made something like this with a program.

Hi

I been fascinated by all kinds of patterns and was
also interested in Moorish, Arabic patterns.

Many years ago, during my explorations, I came across this
basic grid, which can be used to create many of these patterns.

Hi, I managed to create something similar, though it's not exact. I've uploaded the .3dm file, hoping it might be useful to you

I believe one of the features of the original pattern referenced by Franz is the variable spacing of the bars in the panel. It looks to me like the patterns offered afterward are using a uniform spacing, thus producing a different effect.

Hello everyone!
I am pleased that there is so much interest in this type of pattern design and will continue to work on it.
I have now uploaded my solution approach, whereby I realized that there must be a relation to the distance of the parallel lines to the whole pattern,
because I only almost made it, I had to dizzy one point a bit. But I hope that this is hardly recognizable.

As I need a dxf file for the cnc milling machine, I had to delete a lot of superimposed lines, or I had to redraw them with a multiline (milling direction!).

Best regards
Franz

Hi Franz,

Some time was spent looking at your version 4, 3dm file.
Please do not take this as criticism, but I will point out a couple of issues.

The 10 pointed stars do not have ONE center point, and so are NOT circular arrays, and are not symmetrical.
Some of the points of the 10stars have TWO line segments, where one would be enough. Maybe this would have an effect on the gcode, and be detrimental to the routing paths?
(assuming the "screen" is cut out of one solid sheet)

Circular array of various polygons are NOT quite symmetrical, with respect to the 10start "center" point(s) Maybe this accounts for the
various long, interrupted lines not being along one line(?), but havint some slight offsets(?)

Maybe the original builder, due to construction techniques, did not get all of the parts in quite the right spots, for symmetry???
I did not spend any time with the original image loaded into MoI.

Your project has been interesting.

Hi Franz, it would be cool to see a picture of your CNC result too when you have made it!

Thanks,

Hi Franz,

Don't know if this is important for your CNC work, but many curves in your pattern are open curves.

I think it could be source of problems.
But perhaps in your process it isn't matter.

Have fun

Hello
Thanks for the helpful feedback.
The entire order for production is currently still pending as the customer is still looking for a "sponsor".
I therefore still have some time.
Thanks also for pointing out the 2 different centers, that will indeed be the reason for my differences.
I plan to look into it further when the work is fixed and then report back on the CNC work.
So far we have been allowed to make a temporary solution for the steps so that the Imam has something to sit on. So I'm still confident.

It is always a pleasure to be on this forum as you are dealing with experts.

Thank you very much
Franz
