That's actually from 2012, so a lot of the info on the Mac version there is probably out of date.

Originally the MoI Mac version was done using the WINE emulation system that sort of simulates the Windows environment.

One of the problems with that is it was pretty fragile and was prone to breaking with new Mac OS versions. For MOI v4 the Mac version is now a native build and doesn't use WINE anymore.
