Hi All - the treasure mine that is the archive is there a script which converts a regular line to a dashed line - perhaps with control over dash length and gap length.
thanks
Alex.

Hi Alex, so I guess PatternSelection is not what you need - it can only select stuff if it has already been sliced up, it does not do any slicing itself.

But instead try this attached DashCurve script that I cooked up to dash-ify a curve:

- Michael

EDIT: updated DashCurve.js script to fix bug when click selecting curves.

Looks great Alex, doing some papercraft previously and origami they sometimes use different dash patterns for valley or mountain folds so the user knows which direction the fold goes

DashCurve is a very cool script.

It looks like Blend could un-dash-ify some dash curves, if proximity, and start/end points could be identified?

- Brian

English learned by osmosis, not taught...
Had a little fun doing Google search of "adding ify to a word":

"What does the morpheme ify mean?
-ify which allows us to turn an adjective into a verb meaning make something become something (simplify, amplify)"

Hello PAQUICINNO
I built the shape in RHINO SUBD but can be built in other poly programs (SUBD did a better job in controlling minimal faces and clean joins) - I then convert to NURBS and use the RHINO COMMAND UNROLL DEVELOPABLE SURFACE to flatten. Pretty easy work flow I then manually split to fit on a sheet I have cut one on a plotter to test all worked perfectly.

Michael - many thanks for the script I am working this up to cut one out in metal would it be possible to add width to the dash in the script as an extra input or leave blank for general use - the straight slot works for paper folding but in metal lets say the metal is 2mm thick to hand fold it would require a slot width of about 2.5 to allow for bending clearances this way this sort of shape can be hand bent in metal then the major joins welded together.

Hi Alex,

re:

Actually I had thought about putting that in, but it's kind of complicated for it to handle dashes that go around a sharp corner.

But you can easily add width like that by selecting the dashes and using Construct > Offset with "Both sides" and "Cap ends" enabled:

The best way I found to unfold some items that I make in metal or cardboard is a program called pepkura > https://tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura_designer/

You get all the fold lines, tabs to glue and even animation how to fold and unfold...well worth the money.

Strangely the plugin works randomly, it is unstable. Sometimes the plugin works on one line then no longer works on another almost identical one.
On other tests, the line on which I want to apply it disappears, when I exit the function it reappears but not always.
