Why does an additional tapered extrude on this spindle result in isolated face ?

Hi Forum. Trying to figure out why if I add an additional taper section to this cylinder ( select smaller face>extrude>tapered>distance 4mm) I end up with face without the taper visible unlike the previous taper on same cylinder. I can make an identical cylinder without incident without the bearing so I'm guessing it has to do with interplay.

Hi Sven,

Perhaps I'm wrong, but, when I open your file, the cylinder is a solid but seems having missing part or invisible part between its cap and the rest of cylinder.

Normal ?

nothing hidden but an hole.

And this "hole" is a surface too. Strange surface because it has 2 edges and those edges are 1 curve and 1 closed curve.

Having this type of surface is potentialy a source of strange thing.

Hi Sven, somehow the trimming boundaries on the tapered part have become corrupted, that's why it's not getting displayed properly.

I've attached a repaired version.

Thanks for replies. FWIW, I can reproduce at will by starting with the just the attached joined surface and then drawing a cylinder within the surface followed by alternating tapered and regular extrudes.

Hi Sven, yes it looks like the tapered extrusion surfaces can get pretty dense. If you need to do a sequence of several in a row you may be better off instead putting in circles and then using Construct > Loft > "Loft style = Straight".

Actually for this type of thing that is circular around a single axis line it would probably be best to use Revolve.
